I've done the pure builds, but in all honesty hybrids with a main focus and spreading your points out like jam on toast feels like the best way to just be brokenly overpowered.

Playing as a tank? Get hydro, geo, warfare, necromancy, for ridiculously broken armor/spell armor regen with absurd damage based on armor later on.

Other classes benefit the same from hybriding.

There just isn't a situation where spreading your points out isn't better than just dumping them all into one stat, with the exception of summoning.

Hopefully mods change this.

Hi, which spell/talent increases damage based on armor? I have to try that, but missed that so far!

You are mostly right tho, I have all my classes as sort of hybrids, even when I wanted them to be pure class, I found it not worth it - for example my polyscoundrel was pure physical, but I decided to give him few geo and few aero skills - aero for achieving stuns in conjunction with my aeromage, geo for more physical+magical damage+cc.
Main driving force, was that mid fight, I noticed that there are sometimes enemies, with all their magic armor depleted, and physical still present - and my pure physical rogue was of no use against it, as it had to go through that remainder of physical armor to finish him off... thats why I decided to add some magical damage.
And I ended up doing that on ALL my characters, as it makes all combos easier, and lot of fights a lot easier, even tho I probably miss few measly percent of extra damage..
Even pure mage benefits greatly from necromancy spells with physical damage smile

What is a "hybrid" for you? A char which uses some synergies from some schools is not a hybrid for me in this game. A hybrid for me above all is a char which focuses on both damages.

The game is not made for "one school" builds in my opinion. There are even very few pure school starting builds (Rogue I guess?). So combining is a goal and not a cheat.

If you combine too many you get problems with your points. Luckily higher level skills need more points in a school, so the cheesy take-all EA builds are nerfed hard.

Fun times when you could have all mobility spells+buff spells after taking 1 point in every school.. :DD

To be honest, hybrid build in this game probably means you are focusing both str/finesse AND int for spell damage.

If you go mostly for one type, and the other just supplements your char, it probably isnt really hybrid...

For instance, my wayfarer is clear hybrid build - finesse+int+wits+memory make her split thin on attribute points lowering her potential damage/ap, but her versatility is through the roof with all great physical damage and amazing elemental damage from elemental arrowheads+geo+pyro spells. Also best buffer in my party smile Well worth lower damage imo

In DOS1 real hybrid was viable, here hardly, because the three main attributes only increase damage now.

Well they dont increase damage THAT much tho, and there is great diminishing return here (every point has lower value than previous point), so its not that bad to split... For the most part, I found hybrids more valuable for me
