I was happy that Larian remove the offense stat(str, int, fin) bonus on each race, but I still think resistance should not be a perk for picking a race. This makes Lizard less appealing in terms of stats. Corpse eating of elf is so good that its justify. Resistance? not really for me. If resistance is the only thing unique then should make it significant number like at least 30% or more.

10% resistance is quite a lot in the long run though where spells start doing 200-300 a hit, that's 20-30 damage off you that can prevent the shield from breaking.
It synergize with the lizard breath anyway that, with scaling, becomes quite strong (at level 12, it does 99-110 for 1 AP with no int scaling while fireball, for 2 ap, does 114-127, both scaling with Pyro.)
This synergy and ridiculous scaling makes it very tempting to always go for lizard race if you plan on playing a pyromancer. Less damage on self while having cheap yet very strong cone fire spell.

that's the point. I don't want to be bound by playing as a pyro- or vemon-ancer type of character to play lizard. Yes you probably want to use resistance for melee fighter that uses fire/poison abilities too, but you gonna take that damage anyways. Perks that enhance all round situation could be a better.

Breath is an amazing 1 point skill, I use it literally every fight.
I didn't do much with fire spells until about level 14 or so, until then I was reliant on the Prince to drop ignite targets or barrels, clear surfaces, etc.
As for resistance wise, it's a rather nice boon. I personally liked it quite a bit, it helped make him a bit tankier, especially since I used him as a frontline damage dealer with some utility geomancer spells for armor restoration.

Unless your height bonus is 80% damage, that 1 AP skill will deal as much damage as you do with 2 AP. AoE shield mage won't mind getting in front anyway. My level 12 Fane has 320 phy and 509 armor and enemies do whatever they can to avoid hitting him. Too bad the evasive aura is a thing so if they can't kill him, they can't hit anyone.
