Ai needs to figure out defense.

It needs to know how to retreat into better positions and wait for the player to come to them while healing and buffing themselves and or creating long lasting surfaces as defense.

Especially in bigger open spaces.
It could be a "open space Ai" if you will.

Huge improvements on how Ai plays have been made. It sometimes almost brings a tear to my eye seeing the enemies avoid being fooled by simple choke points, buffing each other or combining spells, or going for ranged attacks when necessary.

Archers already have the ability to retreat to a better position instead of blindly charging in like idiots. That should be extended to other types of fighters so even if they are melee front liners they dont just always charge towards my team alone.

And when they do, they do it like a team, not like a group of individuals who each only want to cause more damage separately.

But they also should be able to retreat and regroup, where melee front liners would defend the archers and mages.
And then spam "skip level" while waiting for us to come to them. This would invalidate and remove huge amounts of cheese and abuse options from the game.

The current Ai is very close to such abilities, so it should be possible to do. And then given only to enemies which are supposed to be smarter, like Magisters units and other similar types of creatures that look like they should have some intelligence and required discipline/organization.

"Simple"

Sounds like it will make AI hugely exploitable with rangers on rooftops that will just snipe shit from across the map because it is afraid of moving through some puddle.

I believe Larian developers are not braindead morons who will translate what i suggest into "because it is afraid of moving through some puddle." or "just snipe shit from across the map".

Hence why this suggestion-idea is for them to consider, not you.

If enemies were able to remove or destroy various items i can use as obstacles that would also remove a huge amounts of cheese.

I am aware they are capable of shooting a barrel from time to time.
And they are very good when dealing with doors and usual choke point tactics. Either by smart positioning, saving APs for next turns or by using various "jump to" skills.

But you can still fool them too often by positioning various objects into their paths.

Some should have telekinesis so they can also push objects around and they should immediately seek to destroy any easily destroyable objects blocking their paths - but avoid trying to destroy objects with many hundreds or thousand of "hp".

And they should also know how to use a teleporting skill.
If Crocs can do it...

I don't know, I've seen both sides of that coin. I've had enemies that just commit suicide for no reason, and I've also had a group of zombies use chains of pain on my character with broken armor, and then they grouped up and wacked their zombie constantly. Since they were dealing poison damage, and healing the zombie, it wouldn't kill him. However, the damage DID transition over to the other character, every time they healed their own, it damaged mine.
