Hi,

I've got a problem that i cant seem to fix on my own.
It's regarding the AI grid and making trees "solid" so players can't walk through them.

I populate my level with buildings and rocks and trees and then i generate an AI grid.
The buildings and rocks are non walkable but the trees are like air... you pass right through them.
Have i missed something?

I basicly dropped a tree in a level and then generated the grid and tested it in the editor. What am i missing?

Did you place the trees via the instance painter?

yes i did,
I got it to work when i placed it from root templates instead.

I thought it was great to be able to group togheter a bunch of trees and paint them through instance painter but that didn't work.

You can manually block certain areas from being walkable with the AI Grid Panel. Bring up the AI Grid Panel, select Paint Movement, and 'Block'. Choose a brush (round or square) and start painting. It will show up purple. Regenerate AI.

You could paint these blocked AI areas around your instance placed trees if you wanted.

Honestly I'd just re-do the trees.

As Wind alluded to, the instance painter doesn't have AI at all. So IMO for any rocks/trees you're better off using the root templates with the + sign like normal.

Also if you didn't know, you can set a random scale and rotation if you right click on the + tool which will mimic how the instance painter behaves to an extent. And you can select multiple root templates at once to randomize which tree you place.

If there aren't many you can paint AI over it manually like Wind mentioned. But going forward I'd switch to just placing them.

The instance painter is great for tall grass though. As well as scenery that's outside the level bounds.
