Hi, Im new to Divinity 2 (didnt play it in early access). Im was wondering how one would build a necro considering the physical and magical armor mechanic. Im planning on playing as Fane with Necromancy and Summoning since these 2 magics can support a physical-based party. Is this the best way to build a necromancer? I plan to pump my stats into intelligence and a bit into strength (and memory when needed). And how would one build a necro/warfare character?

You don't need strength for Necro or Summoning. Don't need Int that much, so pup into wits to go first.

Put more points into Summoning, bc the more points you have in summoning, the stronger your summon gets. If you want, you can even spec into Geo or Hydro for a bit of support with that, but don't spread yourself too thin.

I haven't played with this build much yet, I plan on doing a full summoning playthrough later down the line when im playing solo, so for now I just have ideas bouncing in my head.

As for Necro and warfare, it could definitely work. You can go with 1h+shield, and the necro lifesteal will just boost your Survivability.

Also if you don't like one of your builds and you don't wanna restart, you can Respec after Act 1 for free. That's all I can say without spoilers in terms of that.

Is the damage gain for necro spells not worth the Int? I was going to put some points into Str just so I can do more damage when my abilities are on cooldown, As me using Int weapons is pointless in a Physical focused party.

Warfare/Necro should be easy enough. I'd just use a big two hander, it'd be more lifesteal and strip armor faster to get necro skills to work. Shield throw is pretty good too though so 1 hand/shield should also be fine.

Geo/necro I'm still not sure about.

If undead you might go warfare/necro/geo/water, with only single points in the latter two so that you can put out fires and create poison surfaces to fight in via contamination. You'd probably just focus your attributes in strength and your skill points in warfare/necromancy.

I wasn't the one who tested it, but another person tested it for me. What he related is that some Necro spells scales poorly with INT, so they actually have a high base damage. Therefore, Warfare/Necro could work well if you pick the Necro spells that apply good effects (like Decaying Touch and Shackles of Pain) and deal high damage with Warfare to destroy the targets physical armor quickly. Also, there is a summon in Necro that raises a blood corpse that explodes, dealing considerable amount of physical damage, without needing much INT or summoning to be effective.

Poly is also a good skill tree if you plan to go to the 1h/shield, 2h or even dual-wielder STR-based build, because all of poly spells scales with STR (some scales with basic attack weapon damage, but since you'd be using a STR weapon...), notably the high-damage Tentacle Lash and the utility Medusa Head (that actually deals earth damage scaling on STR, besides from having a menacing aura).
