For now, there's a temporary fix you can do:
Use one of your other hotbars, like 4 or 5 and put all your skills and items you want there yourself and ignore Hotbar 1.
That's a brilliant idea. I'm going to try a variation later, and put everything I want regularly into 1/2, and all the crap into 3-5 (grenades, scrolls, whatever). That way 'fly', 'medusa head' etc. are still accessible and at least the usual useless stuff like arrows and grenades are hidden away where they don't clutter up my bars. I just hope there are enough slots for all the potions, scrolls etc...
