Hi guys, is it possible to make items placed on the map as being another's possessions? i want to place items in a traders shop but realised they can just be picked up, without any notification as stealing, or way to prevent items from being interacted with. Is this just down to the GM to act as the eyes and tell the player its stealing after the fact?

I'm wondering the same. I have found out however, that if you place a container in an NPC's inventory and take it out the container will become property of that person. Untill I find out how to do this I've just made all decorative items useless. (No stats, no price) Making it less appealing for players to steal them.

Aside from TheGilgamesh's solution of making items useless, I find the easiest way around this is simply to tell players to treat the game as though it's a standard pen and paper game. If players are actually roleplaying properly, they SHOULDN'T be picking up literally every item in sight (unless being a klepto is part of their personality, and even then- you just have to make sure there are in-world consequences for their stealing). You just need to get your players into the mindset that they are playing a D&D-like, NOT a standard video game.
