Larian Studios Forums Divinity: Original Sin 2 Divinity - Original Sin 2 - Help/Tips/Tricks Burying the Past - Cannot progress (spoilers)

I'm all done on Reapers Coast and ready to sail, but I can't find a way to sail to the next area without Gareth. He's digging away at his parents graves.

I've killed Jonathan, I have his ring and his gloves in my inventory, no trigger for dialogue with Gareth.
I snuck into his parents house by throwing a Pyramid over the back wall and killed the Silent Ones there (log updated accordingly), still no trigger for dialogue with Gareth.

Two Paladin's on the door I don't seem to have enough stats to persuade to formally let me in. Even taking wits potions all my attempts are failing (even tried some of the lower stat combinations on other characters with no joy).

Anyone got any thoughts on this? I was going to bump up my persuade a few points on my next level but I've pretty much run out of things to do on the island for XP.

You need to source-devour Johnathan's ghost where you killed him for the quest to complete, I think.

Nah, didn't need to devour his ghost (or maybe I already had) - I found a workaround though. If you pickpocket the house key from the paladin's then open the door, Gareth triggers the next part of the quest and it goes normally from there. I finished the quest and Gareth wandered off - not sure to where though, as now he seems to have vanished into thin air and still isn't back on the ship?

Pretty sure that's intentional.

I'm not sure if this changes depending on how you complete Burying the Past, but he is off the island and you won't be able to leave with him at the end of Act 2.

That doesn't mean you can't progress his story-line though - so no worries. Feel free to continue on to Act 3 w/o him when the time comes.

I've killed Jonathan and got his ring and gloves but Gareth still asks me for prove who killed his parents. I don't wanna leave without him.
