I'm having a similar issue. The mirror won't let me go above 10 points in an ability, but if I'm wearing armour that buffs the stat, when I change page and return to the ability page it lets me increase it again.
Problem is, if I do this and save the character, the stats are brought down to what they should be, but I'm not given the points back.
I'm level 15 and have 3 less points than everyone else in my party.
Only option is to reload to an earlier point.
