I am playing through a solo game as Fane. I have noticed a few issues when it comes to quests and buffs when I use Fane's shapeshifting mask.
Issue #1: When completing a quest, if the player is not in the same form (Fane, Dwarf, Lizard, Elf, Human) that he/she completed the quest in, then the player does not get credit for completing the quest. Example: When I defeated the final boss on the starting island, I met Malady. She asked me which of the gods I spoke to, and I was not given an option to tell her Amadia. I noticed that I was not in the same form that I was in when I completed that part of the quest. It was only when I changed back into that form that I was able to continue the quest line. Basically, the quests are tied to the form you are in instead of the character itself when you complete them. If you are not in that same form, you will not get credit.
I have also had to re-do entire quests because I changed forms during the quest, and it would not register completion.
Issue #2: Relatedly, I made the potion with the black rose that is supposed to give a permanent +1 to all stats buff. That worked... until I changed forms. Now, I no longer have the buff, and I am not able to remake the potion because the black rose was used up. Even when I change back into the form I was in when I drank it, the buff is gone.
Thus far, the issue with which form I am in hasn't caused too much of a problem (the loss of the permanent buff was irritating though) as I am able to change forms and try again. That has worked so far, but I'm pretty sure that was not intended when Fane was created as a potential character choice.
