Every time I start up the game, there's a 30 second or so delay before a "could not connect to support server" message pops up, then once I click "Ok" the game finally actually starts. It's long enough that I go to the bathroom or grab a drink while I wait. It doesn't appear to impact the game itself in any way, it's mostly just irritating.

It would be great it the game started up right away without waiting for the support server connection.

I have the same issue except that for me it takes 45" and the error message reads "Connection to the Larian support server failed... did not properly respond after a period of"

My version is 3.0.143.324 and I have given Webroot permission to pass this application; also, Webroot reports NO suspicious activity during the period in question.

I don't know if this is related but I tried to load www.divinity.game and was hung indefinitely.

I recall giving the game permission to share data with you but I can't find a way to undo that. It would be nice if you would at least give us a way to shortcut this annoying time-waster until you get it figured out and corrected.

Just wanted to note that I did not give the game permission to share data, so that settings doesn't seem to be related to the error. Although I am wondering why the game is trying to connect to the support server when I explicitly said "no" to that question.

Just to make this clear: The 45" delay I continue to experience is AFTER my system logs on to Steam and BEFORE my game starts to load. So the overall loading time is now well over a minute.

Are we the only two users having this problem? Is anybody listening? Is help forthcoming?

I have been having this same error since I installed the game. I have switched the permission and still receive the error on game start. Like most it does not affect the game play, just a long pause before the game will load. Windows firewall has permissions set for both Divinity and the Support tool.

In case anybody's wondering, yesterday's patch did NOT fix our problem. That's a disappointment.

Well, it's been ten days since I reported this bug here and a week since I started a support ticket. So far, no indication that the problem is being attended to.

Isn't there ANY way to edit the .ini or similar file to stop your launcher from trying to contact your "support site" every time it launches?

I've had the same issue, doesn't ruin the game in any way. I read another thread that just said to check windows firewall settings and that is it. Only real bummer is that Game chat or whatever its called is disabled until Larian can fix this issue.. from the other thread I read it said that they are aware of this and working to resolve it. So hopefully it is fixed soon, I don't want anything to get in the way of such an amazing game.

If anybody's curious, this morning's major patch did nothing to help our problem.

I also tried verifying the Steam cache, and that also failed to produce a solution.

I looked at the Windows Firewall settings and found that outbound connections from unknown programs are allowed by default. Just to be safe, I created specific rules to allow EoCApp and SupportTool to connect outbound. No joy.

A workaround I've started using:

Steam for some reason launches the SupportTool.exe file instead of the EoCClient.exe file. I just made a desktop Icon to EoCClient.exe that launches as admin, and I've had no problems using that instead.

THE TOPIC IS HARMLESS. WE HAVE NO CHAT!

I just registered for this. For me it is a serious issue, because I cannot use the global chat. It is an ISP related issue about DNS resolving of internal.larian.com.

Larian does obviously not see this, it's weird they did not react.
Starting via eocapp.exe does prevent the error message, but still... there is no chat for us.

We get a serious delay, an error message about connection problem with support tool, then game starts up, but also no connect to chat server possible. Maybe no MP (have not tried yet).

Larian, please read, the whole DNS resolver issue has already been analyzed here:

Really - Connect to "internal.larian.com" does not sound like proper work. We're not in your internal LAN. The issue is about fallback to dl2.larian.com which does not work for everybody...

LARIAN, WAKE UP PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! :-)

If internal.larian.com is a publicly reachable server, maybe tell us at least the IP adress, so we can resolve them ourselves via windows "hosts" file.

I have created a support ticket as well.

Connection to the Larian support server failed. The Larian support tool will be disabled. Unable to connect to the remote server - - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 198.105.244.130:9292

Love the game, hate the 2 minutes required at every start with the above error.

I finally got a response from Larian support, copied below. I had already tried the initial steps. Bypassing the launcher brought me success: an immediate launch! Thanks.

The issue with this error is being investigated.
If you have not already checked your firewall settings and disabled your anti-virus, this can also be caused by internet access being blocked for the game.

To check in Windows Firewall:
- click Start, then Control Panel
- in Category view, click System and Security, then under Windows Firewall, click 'Allow a program through Window Firewall'
- scroll down the list and make sure both entries for 'Divinity Original Sin 2' (EoCApp.exe and SupportTool.exe) are checked off to have Public and Private access.

To bypass the Support Tool, you can start the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\bin\EoCApp.exe' program file (or similarly for the GOG install path). Right click drag and drop the executable to the desktop to get a menu option to create a shortcut. As long as Steam is running the game should be able to connect to make Steamworks functions available (multiplayer lobby, etc).
