I'm getting frustrated going places only to get absolutely wrecked by enemies who are vastly more powerful than me.

I will Steamroll some enemies, have a decent battle with others, then go somewhere and one enemy is tougher than my whole party.

It looks open world but while in most battle my tank is super durable and often doesn't even need healing, I go to another place and he get literally gets 3 shotted by summoned minions of theBlack Ring guys on the northern island.

In fact I had my entire party killed in one shot by the burning witch on the pole. She killed everyone with one fire spell, Fane self rezzed with the idol and she killed him in real time (not combat mode) while I had the Game Over box blocking the screen.

I'm getting very frustrated bouncing from place to place, trying to remember how much I was able to accomplish before having to leave due to overwhelming enemies. For most slots I've bought and stolen the best gear I can find. I typically avoid stealing in games but I felt compelled to do out of character to attempt to smooth out the erratic difficulty spikes.

Biggest battles I've cleared:
Dessicated Undead (Lich)
Undead Scarecrow
Necromancer Dog/Master
Numerous Voidwoken

Any tips? I'm just very tired ping ponging around.

I managed more or less to be on the level of my enemies. It's quite annoying if you are above level because fights get too easy, and Tactician does not change this, as I tested the last days.

There are many quests in and around Driftwood, they should get you to lvl 10. Then I wandered to the west to the cave of Mordus but I felt too low. I looked around the east up to the paladin bridgehead and got to 11. After this I made the Mordus quest. You get a monstrous twohander from the underground dwarf as reward.

Then Stonegarden to the east of Driftwood, I took Ryker's quests but could not fight him until I got to lvl 14, much too easy then.

After this I hiked to the north up to the sawmill to look for the heroe's treasures. It's quite a step when you find lvl 14 stuff with lvl 12. Don't enter the sawmill before lvl 14! BTW there is a nice little old lady around who welcomes you warmly.

With lvl 13 I made the Black Pits, with lvl 14 Cloisterwood and the Sawmill. Cloisterwood is the landscape I like the most visually in the game. There is also a nice lady nearby, a young but quite dead lady this time, who does not like your shining lights, better to keep a distance till lvl15.

With lvl 15 and 16 I went to the Bloodmoon Island to search for the blade of Anathema and such. It's better to look to the east of Cloisterwood for a house and a guy with terrible accent first, to get another quest for Bloodmoon and the Advocate. I also cleared the part of the Black Pits near the coast where the two Shriekers are. Roon I only found with lvl 16, an unfair fight.

I'm not further than lvl 16, you see. I did not stay in any region all the time during a level of course, sometimes I went there and there.

BTW I did not steal anything after lvl 10, Lucky Charm is good enough. That's on Classic, if you are on Tactician, I pity you, it's more of a burden then. Although the fights on Tactician seem not that much more difficult with my gear than on Classic, I tested a bit with changing to Tactician before fights, then reloading an old save the last days. At least the fights are longer.
