Just finished my first playthrough - what a ride! Really loving this game to bits. I now want to start a new game and I am looking to receive some tips on how to build my party for a second playthrough (will likely play on Classic difficulty again).
Old party
In my first run I played on Lohse as a mage, focussing on Pyromancy and Geomancy.
Red Prince as tank, focussing on Leadership, One Handed, Warfare and a couple of points in Summoning.
Ifan as a Rogue with Glass Cannon, focussing on Scoundrel, and Dual Wield.
Sibille as Ranger, focussing on Huntsman and Ranged.
The issue was that, despite Lohse being my main character, I felt that she was quite underwhelming in combat. She was the only one in my party focussing on magical damage. Most of the time there was really no point in breaking down that magical armor and having her focus on enemies with low magical armor just seemed a bit too situational as I felt that the game really rewards focussing damage on one target at a time. Accordingly, she spent most of the time in a support and buffer role. However, when she did get those oil + fire combos off it was quite destructive.
Red Prince was also underwhelming because physical armor makes Taunt only really marginally useful and I had a hard time with trying to make the enemies target him so that I could benefit from the shield and all that armor. Therefore, he also spent most of his time in a supporting kind of role, using Fortify and Summoning.
Meanwhile, Ifan with Glass Cannon and Sibille nuked down enemies with awe. That was fun.
New party
For the next playthrough, I want my party to contain at least Fane, Beast and Sibille because I missed bits of their story. I am thinking about focussing having all four focus on either physical or magic with some support on the side.
As for magic, maybe have (i) Fane do Pyro + Geomancy; (ii) Hydro + Aero mage; (iii) Necro + Aero mage; and (iv) Summoning + Poly as more of a support class? Would these skill combinations work?
Alternatively, I am thinking about going fully physical, having: (i) Dual Wield Rogue; (ii) Dual Wield Warrior; (iii) Ranger; (iv) maybe Two Handed warrior with some support skills like Summoning, some healing, and a bit of buffs? I feel like this may be the more powerful combination, but I consider magic to be a bit more fun in general than physical.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
