I've successfully created some abilities that I want my character to have. I have been able to add these abilities to my character by adding them to a race or class SkillSet, but this seems like a pretty poor way of doing it, as I don't want everyone of that race or class to have these abilities.

At the same time, the tutorial for creating a Skill Book seems to be a bit involved (you need to create the book object, root templates, a vendor, a treasure table...all sorts of things).

Is there any easier way to just add a skill to the player character and the player character alone, that has a minimal impact on the world itself?

You could add it via script - Either by attaching the script to the player in the editor, or overriding one of the base scripts (i.e. Base.charScript, Player.charScript).
