In the middle of the game, I all of a sudden found myself looking at the desktop, with an interrupt sound. At first, I thought DOS2 had crashed, but I noticed the windows error message was about failing to modify files in the savegame directory. So I ackknowledged two sequential error messages, and went back to DOS2.
After this point, whenever I try to do a quick save, or whenever the game tries to do an auto save, I get the same issue. I can, thankfully, do a regular save at the moment (but I'm not sure how long that will last).
Digging into the directories, I found that DOS2 stores its save games in 'my documents' in a series of folders that are marked read-only, and not owned by my system. I tried moving the files out of the directory, and most of them moved fine (except the .png files). The png files and their parent directories remain locked behind this arcane wall.
When I try to do anything with these remaining files, I am told only an administrator can make changes, although I am logged into the administrator (and only) account on my computer. I am running windows explorer as an administrator, and using my file shredders as an administrator. Because of the location of the files, I doubt a clean install will fix it (my documents usually stays so you cankeep your save games).
I have tried, but cannot:
1) Move the .png
2) Delete the .png
4) Rename the files
3) Shred the files with a 3rd party app
4) take ownership of the files via command prompt
5) Change the files to not be read only
6) adjust ownership via the security tab in properties
7) adjust permissions associated with various owners via the security tab in properties
Has anyone else seen this issue? It started the evening, eastern US time, of September 29th.
