Like other people on the forums, I have found that the frame rate really drops after leaving Fort Joy island. Turning the graphics settings down and using fake fullscreen helps a lot and makes the game playable. However, I still get really slow play (i) when there are a lot of poison/fire effects on screen (ii) near the coast where there are poison puddles (iii) where there are both poison/fire effects on screen and ladders.
My graphics card is good, but my cpu is old so the frame rate drop is probably cpu-side rather than just graphics per se. I have found that I get a huge frame rate boost in areas with effects and ladders if I unchain all the characters and move them separately (game goes from cripplingly slow to basically normal). This suggests to me that the slowdown is less to do with graphics and more to do with the character path setting algorithm struggling to cope with simultaneously pathing all the characters when they are moving near “dangerous” areas.
I don’t remember anyone else mentioning that they find the game speeds up after unchaining characters, so this might be useful feedback. Does anyone else find the same effect?
