So, I am attempting to making a skill-book for the already implemented skill summon cat. I know that this is a in game quest where whomever the cat first sees will follow and if you lead the cat to outside fort Joy you will get the skill. In my game I am playing with 4 friends and when we went into the castle the cat got killed but we were not aware of this-now to get this skill we would have to retcon about 6 hours worth of game play. I also thought it would be beneficial in single player or in game if a certain person wanted the spell and the cat is following the 'wrong' person.

Now so far I have followed the guides on larian for making a custom skill as well as their online videos here are my attempts and issues so far.

-Attempted to make the skill using the 'lighting bolt' template-found as they were a different skill entirely method was unsuccessful.

-Found that there is an in game 'Summon Cat' scroll attempted to place that and a blank spell book to create in game however skill-book does not exist thus could not be combined.

-Attempted to follow Larian's guide for 'lighting bolt' but with a summon skill-book Ethereal, unfortunately it seems that the GUI is locked in and cannot be changed or altered in anyway-even though I renamed the book and tried to link it to the skill using the skill just used the original skill Ethereal

I'm not sure what else to try other then attempting to build a skill-book from scratch from a blank one but I'm unsure if that would be successful-I feel like though knowing how to do this would be beneficial for anyone else trying to make custom summon skill books.

This is my first attempt in modding if anyone has been able to do something successful or can assist me in some way I would be very grateful.

Additional attempt, I have tried to edit a blank skill book but I am still having the locked in GUID as an issue.

Maybe this isn't exactly the solution you're looking for, but you could just make a copy derived from the cat summoning scroll and make it so it doesn't get consumed after usage by editing the "Use Actions" under "Item State" in the side bar. I believe there's a "Consume" checkbox you could just turn off.

I tested it out really quickly with a random scroll and it worked fine on my end!

Hope this helps laugh

Hi there! That sounds like it would be a solution, I'm not sure where to find the "Use Actions" or "Item State". Would you mind clarifying where this can be found? I'm assuming this is in the Root Template versus the Mod object area. Thank you so much for your reply I feel like this will solve the issue quite neatly!!

Here you go:

Notice that if you click on it, you should be able to edit that field. Make sure you're first working on a copy derived from the original or you'll overwrite the original scroll (which will change EVERY single copy of that scroll in the game).

To access that side panel with a custom scroll created, follow these steps:
- Go to the Root Templates tab (or open it up)
- Look for the cat summoning scroll (usually begins with "Scroll")
- Right click on it > Create new from selected
- Leave everything as is (I usually edit the new root template afterwards, personal taste) but change the name to something else under tab 4 (The engine will give you a red message warning you there's already an existing root template with the name it starts with. Just put something like "Hacked" or "Modified" at the end of the name and you're good).
- It'll then create the root template for you with all the stats and whatnot already linked.
- Right-click on your new root template > Open for Edit
- You'll get the sidebar with all the info you need there + that Item State section.

Let me know if that clarifies it smile

Cheers!

.:Quick edit:.
I'm assuming you haven't created anything, hence the step by step stuff. Just skip it if you already know the process :P
