Why did Malady die in my latest playthrough despite me having completed the same quests as before? I have gone through it choosing every possible dialogue line but she dies anyway.

On top of it being completely non-sensical, this also prevents me from going to the Hall of Echoes.

can you describe what you did in act 2? did you call her back to the ship via the lady vengeance shiphead?

i've seen this happen to several people and it's never happened to me. she always survives in my runs, so there's something people are doing that i'm not which triggers her death. no idea what it is though

Could it be related to the player not doing the ritual after getting the third source point and going stright to the ship and nameless island? In my game where Malady died i refused the training from Hannug, Ryker and Almira, accepted it from Sahelia and Jahan, but did not do the ritual with meister Siva the third time and went stright to the ship, where Malady scolded me for not taking what's offered on silver platter, but said she knew where to go next anyway after doing some kind of meditaton. I think her having to divine the location of the island might be what tips the scales on whether she survives or not? In her dying dialogue she says something along the lines that crossing realms takes bits if her soul and she used it all up.

either way it's definitely something you did (or didn't do) in act 2

If you take the 3rd dialogue option - "Gesture toward the demolished ship and congratulate her on the landing" - she still dies but you get hall of echoes. If you take the first two options she dies and you don't get hall of echoes waypoint so you can't meet Tarquin, respec etc

I am not sure why she dies on some and why not on others. I got 3 source points and did the ritual in Driftwood. She still scolded me (not sure why since I got 3 source points). She died on ARX and I have no access to finish some of the quests or get my old items. Can anyone tell us why? Or at least have the characters that survive in hall of heroes accessible somehow. I am jumping onto another game until some more patches/fixes come out.

did you do the ritual twice? first before you got the source points, and then again after?

i told ryker not to sacrifice the ghosts and ended up fighting him and i still never got scolded by malady at the end of act 2. it really shouldn't be an option for her to die, it throws too many things out of wack

In my case Malady never died, but in Arx I never had a waypoint to HoE. Weird.

Yes I did the initial one and the later one. Both. So no idea. Really do not want to restart especially if I don't know what caused her to die later on.

To avoid Malady scolding you for not doing as you told:

You do initial ritual with Siva (she sends you to seek more training after )

One more after the second source point (where you get source vampirism)

And you have to do one more after the third point, where voidwoken invade the halls of echos, you fight them off and learn of nameless island.

I believe that if you do not do the third one, Malady has to divine the location and die later as a result.

I may be wrong, don't have a save handy to check, unfortunately. But it seems to be the only logical explanation.

That bit must be particular to just Lohse, then. Sorry, I assumed it would be same for everyone.. But for sure, Maladay scolds the pc even if they got all the source points, without that third ritual.

I remember that, because as I got my last source point I had journal trigger with a message that a bird arrived from Malady and she wants us on the ship immediately - so I went immediately and got yelled it. (reloading and doing the the last third ritual beforehand = no getting scolded, and just departing act 2)

I just proceeded from my 'get scolded' save from there because well, I thought it was funny. The consequences an act later apparently aren't though. ;(

i'm surprised that i've never even triggered it just by accident, especially since i have turned down help (from ryker, but only after i already have all 3 source points, so maybe that prevents her from getting mad?)

I didn't get source vampirism until I learned it from that stone tablet in act 3, and Malady is still alive. I didn't even know she could die, I had tried to murder her several times lol.

I never did anything for Ryker either. I got source from Saheil and The Advocate.
