Larian Studios Forums Divinity: Original Sin 2 Divinity - Original Sin 2 - General I really dislike tactician mode

I thought the opponents were going to be smarter not have 10x more base stats. I didn't spec into thievery early game and now I have no good equipment and I have to fight magisters to get out of fort joy.

How do I handle this? Do I fight the royal slugs and hope for 8k experience so I can get thievery (if it gives me a talent at level 4)?

I kind of feel like I have to restart and select a mode where the base stats aren't jacked so high that you lose to two void wretches half the time the moment you spawn on the beach after the ship.

Edit 2: Damn! Nope, I'm stuck

Edit 3: Managed to kill one of the magisters and he dropped a hammer of like 17-18 attack and I found a shortsword of 9-10 attack. Dipped those in an ooze barrel and I'm ready to roll now! (Also gave an OP shield)

Also there's some really good hidden items near the broken bridge at the waypoint on the starting Fort Joy beach. You need the TP gloves to get them though.

If you don't enjoy tactician mode, try classical mode instead.

It's better to restart now while it's still so early. If you continue on and still hate it 10 hours later, that's even more wasted time.

For Tactician you just want to stack summoners or physical damage to start. Give everyone stomp to lock enemies into perpetual CC. This way you're only ever chewing down one wall. It's dumb but that's how it is right now.

Stick with it - the game gets easier after Fort Joy. Feel free to cheese some of the encounters while you are struggling (e.g. my favourite is to nuke one dude down, escape/stealth, resurrect, repeat).

I only realised you could save mid battle at any time you want on the bishop fight. Lol. Considering that I think tactician is fine, IMO they really should remove being able to save like that.

That is what is honor mode is for.
