Why can leaders only lead from 5 yards away?

This question is open since start of EA, Larian never bothered to solve it. They changed what Leadership gives as benefits, but not the core issue: the range.

It should either go up by 1 meters per Leadership point, or the range should be increased to 8 meters.

Leadership should work 'on sight' like in the first.
