As far as I can tell, I've done all of the quests in Fort Joy and in the Swamps. I'm at the battle vs Alexander but I'm still about 20K XP away from Level 8 so I can't beat him. Can anyone recommend some way I can level up? Some little known quest I may have missed or some battles I can do somewhere? I can obviously answer any questions about my progress.

When I got here my team were about 4k-8k away from level 8, and I did pretty much everything too.

You can try killing every Magister you see around Fort Joy, all the Silent Monks in the prison.

- The burning pigs quest - which ends with helping one of them become human again and she becomes a vendor
- The Artifacts of the Tyrants quest where you have to find all pieces of the armor set
- Gratiana's soul jar quest, including a bunch other soul jars
- There's a hidden chamber in the prison which is part of the Withermoore soul jar quest. There's a bunch of "fake" soul jars in there which summon level 5 enemies for you to fight
- Slane/Radeka quest
- The Trompdoy/Cursed Ring quest, maybe?

Worst case scenario, you can try killing a bunch of NPCs...

I personally missed the Gargoyle maze on first pt and also missed a bit of xp towards level 8, but you can also level up during Alexander fight even when you don't kill an enemy but the drillworm.
Honestly tho just leveling from 7 to 8 is not gonna make Alex that much easier, rather try to mprove your strategy.
For me soloing the fight was really hard until I realized every Magister just focuses the Drillworm once it shows.
You can do so much damage in that time and ofc ol wormy will do damage, too.

i don't think i've ever been level 8 in this fight. unless your party is really poorly optimized, you should be fine at lvl 7

to be honest the fight is pretty rng-based, it can be either a breeze or a complete nightmare depending on who that worm decides to focus

last time i did this fight the worm just tunneled (literally) my main character through the entire fight, even with all of the magisters and alex himself hitting it

Thanks guys. Perhaps I'll try the battle a few more times. Is it smarter to pick off the weaker Magisters first or focus on Alexander and his main guard?

the polymorph up on the ledge can put out some serious damage if left unchecked, i tend to go for her first. plus, getting someone up there gives a good vantage point for the fight

other than that, alexander is good to focus, although he's quite tanky and good to have against the voidworm

The only time I did that fight, I split my party: the 2 melee fighters entered through the archway and triggered the fight, and I snuck the two ranged characters around to the right to the elevated walkway and they were able to get a few shots in while everyone else was concentrating on the melee guys.

Of course, this was on Classic, not Tactician, but I think the basic strategy is sound.

Short answer: Alex.

Long answer:

I did this on tactician. When you're in dialogue with whoever you have that can teleport out fast, do some prep. Grab all the fire barrels and stack them around Alex. quicksave when you do this just incase so you don't have to do it over if the barrels explode by accident when moving them.

Positioning-wise, stay behind the wall where the highest mage is. where no enemy can attack you. Then it's pretty easy, just blow alexander up from the highest ledge, but back away at the end of the turn so you don't get backlashed by the gheist or swapped by Alexander. Then do this dance until Worm shows, they will all focus worm, and you can pick them off.
