Well Iban: Divine Divinity is a little like a mix between Diablo 2 and Baldurs Gate. The combat is hack and slash oriented, but you have the ability to pause the game by pressing space at any point, to think your tactics through.
Besides combat, you can also learn over 90 skills, and there's tons and tons of quests which you can finish when you want to. So it isn't a pure hack and slash. There's alot of choices you will have to make, and the game is pretty non-linear.
