Just upgraded to Win 10 1709 and now I cannot start the game. I get a crash report which I sent, but that isn't going to solve anything anytime soon.

Any ideas on what I can try to get this game working?

The game loads and starts minimized, when I go to maximize it (so I can select from the startup menu) It flickers and immediately minimizes again. I have to use Task Manager to kill the process.

I've rebooted to no avail. I do have antivirus (System Center Endpoint Protection) running, but I have always had that running.

I'm using a Surface Book with 16gb ram. I have another laptop with the same version of Win 10, I could load the game there and see if it launches, but that laptop isn't powerful enough to play the game.

Any ideas are welcomed!

Try verifying game, or full reinstall. even though it's obviously outside the game itself.
Possibly the required VC+ Redistributable needs reinstalling.
Check your Drivers, Windows will overwrite them, even if it breaks things.

Very difficult to figure out what MS removed, or replaced that you need.
Installing wrong drivers is a common complaint.

I have a spexific audio card, and MS kept installing NVidia HD drivers as default.
When I don't even use the HD audio of my damn graphics card.
Had to use Group Policy to force it to stop reinstalling crap that broke my setup.
If it's not a missing Redistrabutable, look at your drivers next.

I took back full control, blocked and removed all it's bloatware, and I now decide if, and when I update the OS.
Damn forced updates are the worst idea ever.
Steam' s justt as bad, which is why I use GOG.

Fummy thing was, when I had an activation issue after a hardware change, because I refuse to use a MS account.
Everything "essential" MS tries to disable, is all their bloatware I'd already removed. It's a legal copy by the way.
After a month of dire non activation warnings, it suddenly was autio activated, once more.

Thanks for the response, I am going to try to reinstall the game, see if that helps. I backed up my saved games, so hopefully I can just drop those files in and have my saved game back.

I'll let you know how it goes...

I had major problems with trying to update & load save games after I upgraded Windows 10 last week to 1709 (Fall Creators Update).

Turned out I had turned on "Windows Defender" , "Controlled Folder Access". This blocks "unwanted" programs from accessing certain files. In my case, DOS2 couldn't read?/write files in my users folder.

This caused DOS2 to crash on loading any save games, file errors on updating, etc...
I also tried fully fully reinstalling DOS2 which said it worked but would error on starting new games.

Turning off "Controlled Folder Access" (Windows Settings => Update & Security => Windows Defender => open Defender Security Centre => Virus & Threat Protection => Virus & Threat Protection Settings =>Controlled Folder Access (turn it OFF to fix!)

I thought with this turned on, Defender would alert me if a program tried to access protected folders/files - but no it doesn't, it just causes said program to crash because of no file access...
