hmmmm i thought that ghost in the shell was a bit poor. the english dubbing is way off, and where's akira in that list?

I think Ghost in the Shell wasn't so much dubbed as rewritten for English speaking audiences. I've tried watching it with English vocals and subtitles and they are quite different in some places. Some Japaneese ideas don't translate well into English. Neon Genesis: Evangellion did the same thing.

Some philosphical concepts can especially get awfully garbled if its just a direct word for word translation. The actual idea thats trying to be conveyed needs to translated rather that the direct meaning of each word.

The GITS soundtrack was very haunting. One of those tunes that you remember for ages but don't dare to hum it out loud I really liked the movie as well. Haven't heard the english dubbed version so can't comment there. I thought the ending was abit off but oh well what can you do?

I quite liked the end of Ghost in the Shell. There's so many little bits through the movie, off-hand comments even, that just make so much more sense by the end of it. The managed to wrap it up while leaving it wide open.

Speaking of which, Ghost in the Shell 2 is out in Japaneese cinemas in June!

akira's soundtrack is not really memorable if you ask me...the trouble with dubbing is mostly done very lousy..by b-actors if i recall it well...

macross plus soundtrack is by yanno kanno (a lady who also does cowboy bebop soundtracks). go check out her other works. i'm sure u can get a lot of hits in amazon.

another great soundtrack that i recently discovered; Lost In Translation. a lot of great chillout tracks that is soothing especially after a hard day at work or maybe just lazying around on the weekends. handefood, u may like this one. who knows, deathatthedoor might as well.

oops, sorry. it's Yoko Kanno.

anyway, shame aside. the anime series Hellsing has really great soundtrack. very weird & yet very addictive.

anybody here like Ennio Morricone?

not that i don't like Kirill, but it would kick [nocando] if he's the one who makes a spaghetti western out of or course it would've been re-named as The Good The Bad & Both Ugly.

found quite a deal in one of the local chain record stores; selected japanese cd's from video cd's to soundtracks are in irresistable price of RM16 (USD1 = approx. RM3.80). i found Kiki's Delivery Service soundtracks (both score & image albums), Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (score), My Neighbour Totoro (both score & image albums). will try to look in other chains for Princess Mononoke & Spirited Away. i'll definitely buy both score & image albums for each & i know for Princess Mononoke as well as Spirited Away, there are even Symphonic versions so i will look out for that too.

guess what? all those are imported!

oh heck, i'll be so broke this month!! with only music to feed me!!

those who like jazz mildly should check out Yoko Kanno's works for Cowboy Bebop! i love the soundtrack for Cowboy Bebop movie, Knockin' on Heaven's Door. just brilliant! all colours of emotions; ecstatically happy, rush of feeling invulnerable, poignant, sad, hopeful, relaxed, etc.

now she's close at number two with the first fav being Joe Hisaishi. sorry about Howard Shore & John Williams as they've relegated to distant 3rd & 4th.

now i'm trying to look for Samurai X OVA soundtrack. very traditional japanese music. yeah, i like folk music. anybody who has Samurai Showdown (or Samurai Spirits) game cd should play it on a cd player. a lot of wonderful traditional music in it. yes, it has audio tracks on it.

don't forget to check out Hellsing anime series soundtrack. music is a mix of 70's rock & spooky ambience that are just too cool! very unearthly yet refreshing!! how oxymoronic can i get?

dangit!! all that talk of anime soundtracks, & where is shyon? i miss that dude.
