I'm really, really pissed off.
My resistances are lowering continuously and I would have to abandon my dragon armor to stop it getting worse, not talking about getting my resistances back.

Her eis what happens:
I have 3 levels in Resist Magic.
I have 3 objects that give me a Resist Magic +1.

Each time I load a game, or remove/re-wear my equipment, my resistances lower forever.
When I load, I only have 3 points in resist magic, like Divine Divinity doesn't recognise the 3 +1 points from my objects because that would put it beyond 5.
However, if I remove the objects, I keep my three points, but lose 5 resistance in each category, for each object. Thus if I remove my objects, I lose 15 points that I'll never get back.
That is, if I remove all my equipment, I find myself with 0 resistances in spite of my 3 resist magic skill points.

And if only it would go down to that...
I didn't notice at first.
But if the I save my game, and leave, with my equipment on and say, base resistances of 0 instead of 15, and global resistance of anything.

Next time I load, I start with minus 15 points because once again, the points of the equipment ar enot taken into account in positive, but are removed if I remove the equipment...

When I noticed this and understood, I was down to -40 natural resistances...

I'm soooo upset. I know I won't be able to finish the game now if I don't change that, because I would lose 15 points at each load, and soon I'll have -300 resistances.

I need first, comfort.
Second, if someone can explain, or give me a link, to a way of:
- editing the character (with an hex editor, but where?), so I can catch my res points back
- editing the equipment, so I can remove the skill bonus so it does not happen again.

I have to precise I tried the non-editor trick of duplicating/changing an object (swapping the equipment of two different saves), but for unique objects, it seems not to work, and my problem is on the dragon armour and the nobleman's amulet, so I could not do it. I guess the characteristics of the unique objects are stored somewhere else (object files?) once they've been randomly set.

I had the same problem about 2 days ago, but my resists were at -5322552 or something like that, just download the 1.34 patch and you will be fine, worked for me...

Forgot to say: of course I have the latest patch and always had.
It's not like you, I'm not at -65000 something, I precisely lose 15, and I know precisely how and why, each time I touch my equipment or load.

But thanks anyway <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Use iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to remove a skill point or two from Magic Barrier. Someone else ran into this problem if the skill points from the skill and equipment bonuses added up to more than 5 (or was it 5 exactly?).

If that doesn't help, you can use DAD's item editor to re-create some of the equipment you have, minus the spell bonus. This editor can add passive damage bonus skills to weapons, but can not edit the skill bonus to your own skill set.

You can use the save editor repeatedly to raise your resistances. The resistance bonus when learning Magic Barrier is applied immediately, so if you remove all skill points from it, load the game, max the skill, save, edit and remove skill points, load and re-learn the skill, you can slowly replace the lost resistance points.

The stats of random items are stored in the items.000 file, and the problems trying to transfer such items between saves is described in the Lost Items post.

Thanks SOooooo much raze.

It's wonderful to know I can edit my resistance with the save editor by putting and removing points.

I can't really remove the magic barrier from my objects since I can't set other skills, because my objects with magic barrier have a second skill I wouldn't like to lose (or maybe my belt doesn't, I have to check. My amulet and armor do have a second one)
But at worst, I'll just get my skills down so the total is 5 or less.

I guess what you say was logical: it's precisely because the points are applied instantly and are not re-computed in function of the number of skill points that there is this bug:
say I have 25 resistances, with 5 skills and a +1 because of an object.
the 25 is set in the file regardless of the skills. When I remove the object, it is counted as if it should remove 5 points, since the game does not deal with it by counting the points.
If I put it again, the game knows I have already 5 points in the skill (well, it has to check to modify the skill level), and thus does not increase the res stats.
I've lost 5 points...

Silly bug.

As for the topic on changing/duplicating items, I had followed it and it didn't seem to give anything good for my unique items, but I'll read it again and try again.

In any case thanks, you really saved this game for me. I would have sold it for peanuts out of frustration (it was the fourth time I tried and each of the three first times, a major bug had killed my game, then I tried a fourth one with 1.34, and everything was OK until now when I found myself with -50 every res'. Small bug, major consequences)

Thanks, thanks, thanks

By the way, your first link for the item editor is dead.

And one more thing, the item editor is a bit silly and doesn't take ASCII.
As I play French Divinity, it means my swords are "épées", and their name in the editor is " ".
I also have a lot of "Armure d'" ("Armour of").
Anyway, I can't complain, and I don't, it was just to inform.

Thanks; I've changed that in my list of links, so I will not re-post it again.

Actually, it doesn't; it just describes the problems with trying the procedure using items with random stats.
