In DOSEE making money was easy - buy sliver/iron bars, turn them into axes/swords and sell back. Crafted weapons were also better than those from loot, so crafting was really worth it. In this one most crafted weapons are worthless, not just in terms of value, but they cannot be enhanced in any way, so you can always find better ones from loot or vendors.

The best way I've found to make cash from crafting is to buy all arrowheads from vendors, turn them into charming arrowheads at no cost, and sell them back.

charming arrowhead = arrowhead + jar of honey

I'm currently at Bartering=8 (Act II), and each arrowhead costs me 4 gold, and each charming arrowheads sells for 74 gold (varies with vendor's attitude). That's almost 19 times return on investment. I haven't discovered all of Reaper's Coast yet, but I've already found at least 8 vendors that sell stacks of 10 arrowheads each, and arrowheads always get replenished every hour. So every once in a while I stop questing, go through all the vendors, pay 320 gold for 80 AHs, convert them, and sell them back for about 6000 gold. Pretty good deal. This way I don't have to rely only on loot to make some money.

After making the charming AHs, I'm left with empty honey jars which I then refill at any beehive (there are at least 3 beehive locations around reaper's coast). That makes honey effectively an infinite resource, similar to oil, ooze, and water barrels. Those other types of arrows don't sell for that much gold. The more honey jars you collect, the faster you'll be able to convert all arrowheads, but even if you have just one jar, you can keep refilling it, but it will take much longer. I have almost 60 jars already.

Not to mention that charming arrows are one of the best types of elemental arrows you can have in your arsenal (I keep 20 on my ranger). Sometimes I charm 2 or more enemies per turn. There's nothing better than watching your enemies slaughter each other.

How do you guys make cash? Any suggestions?

Right now I am heavily investing in Lucky Charm for one char. At level 6+ you get an insane amount of legendaries and such. I must admit I also craft for selling afterwards, but didn't think of the refillable honey jars.

If you've got 8 Barter, you already have an excellent way to make money--sell all the stuff you loot that you're not actively using. Just doing that got me enough money to never have to worry about buying gear.

Also, you're aware you can craft arrowheads, too, right? Once you advance further in the chapter, you'll have enough raw materials to make a metric buttload of them!

I don't have maxed barter or luck, and I still ran into excess money by my mid teens. this game feels very polarized with its economy. on one side, you seem to struggle endlessley to get the money you need just to keep your gear up and get a few skill books. then you hit a threshold were money just seems to pour in, and you get tired of picking things up to sell at the vendor.

I'm tempted to try out the mod that rebalances the evonomy, see if that helps. But I will definitely try this tip out on my lower level groups until they hit that threshold.

Some 'honest' players don't like to steal. I think it's bad design if thievery is the only way to stay "above water".

It's true, At lvl 17, and almost done with Act 2, I think I'm hitting that point of not having to craft for cash. In Act 1 and most of Act 2 I was constantly running out of cash and had to make a pile of charming arrows to stay well equipped. But I also resorted to some thievery, which I don't like, without which I would still be in trouble.

I liked crafting in DOS1, not just for gold but for useful weapons. In DOS2 crafting is garbage. I hate that.

How the hell did you get 60 honey jar?!?!?!

I've been trying to find as much as possible and I only have 13! You have 4x what I have!

I'm level 14 now, in Reaper Coast and I can't find any more empty jar to get that money making easier.

Any hint where I can buy/find more empty jar?

Thanks

I tend to craft poison arrows for cash in Fort Joy plus I use thievery to get all the available stuff.

After reaching Driftwood this isn't necessary though. It's relatively easy to get bartering to 10 (human with maxed bartering plus trade secrets, Justinia's Favour and any random amulet and belt granting +1 bartering). Selling tons of useless stuff grants you enough gold to buy whatever goodies you see. With or without another character investing in lucky charm.

Although I noticed they changed the markups and discounts in the last patch. In the previous versions you practically bought items with 10 bartering at the same price you could sell them. Meaning you practically just borrowed the items from the vendors for a level at no cost. Now you will actually lose some money in the process. smile

EDIT: very true. Crafting needs an overhaul in this game.
