Hello!

If you have not reached/completed this quest it’s probably for the best if you not read this post because some content will be described.

I am on my first playthrough, which I began in September shortly after release, in tactician difficulty and have encountered what I think is a bug for the quest Doctor’s Orders in Arx.

My party consists of The Beast (main), Ifan, Lohse and Sebille.

I visited the Black House where the Dr resides upon exploring Arx and reverted to a previous save when combat was initiated because I didn’t want to jump the gun. I then completed the other side quests which ultimately lead to him, namely killing Isbeil and then Lord Kemm. After receiving an invitation to the Doctor’s I have tried visiting him using both routes to no avail (front door and through the basement).

The issue is that Malady never leaves the Hall of Echoes and as such never gives me the opportunity to weaken the Doctor. I can not, given the difficulty level, knock out his armour before charms Lohse. This makes the fight impossible for me to win.

Has anyone else had this problem (Malady not greeting you outside the Dr’s house)? And if so, is there a work around.

Additional info:

- Jahan is not imprisoned in the Dr’s cellar
- I have passed the Lever puzzle on path of blood (final quest, I guess).
- I visited Arx and completed many quests before going to the Harbour

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I can't say with 100% certainty what should or shouldn't happen, but I'm pretty sure Malady helping you is not a given. It seems to require a bunch of conversations with her along the way (and maybe some other stuff).

The same for Jahan going to fight the Doctor by himself. There's a lot of things involved in Lohse's quest, which is why it's hard to tell why something happens or why it does not, without digging deep into the codes. Helping Jahan with the business on Bloodmoon Island, learning the demon's name, among other things. Again, I might be wrong on this.

As far as fighting the Doctor goes, it's possible to do it in the worst case: having Lohse in party, fighting him when he's at full power, in demon form, in his office, on Tactician, etc. This is hard to pull off, naturally; you need a strong team and specific tactics. Otherwise, you can always try to flee. Granted, this is one of those situations in which it might become very difficult to back out of unless you have a good previous savegame. If you start off the fight in front of his room as normal, you will be surrounded by enemies and even fleeing would be a problem, unless you have Escapist, used in combination with the teleporter pyramids. What I would suggest in this case is, try to back up toward the door while killing off as many minions as possible so that you can run away.

I don't know what exactly you have gone through during this quest, I'm just saying that it's possible that Malady and Jahan not showing up is not a bug in your case. But if you have been thorough all the way and develop their involvement properly, then it would be a bug.

I found Lohse's guest to be all bark and no bite. Spent so much time preparing for this fight, planning different strategies, respecing so I can use Apotheosis etc, and then I killed him on the first turn on Classic, without snuffing the candles.

Granted I was level 21 and lucky enough to have found a weapon that did 360 damage + 80 fire. Added in a power rune, combined with Eternal trinket thingie and I do almost 4000 damage with my 72 strength. Sebille (glass cannon scoundrel) took care of his armor with her poisoned needles and then used overpower with Red Prince, took out all his health in one hit. Boosh.

On topic: have you agreed to Malady's request to help her on Lady Vengeance?

Thanks for the replies. I did find a work around for this.

Regarding the other points, I have been very rigorous with the quests and Lohse’s line had been a favourite (enjoyed them all actually) so have completed all prereqs. Also, the game is a lot harder on tactician than classic. Also, you are unable to flee to wayshrine in combat in this fight while in the house.

Anyway, the workaround is to make lohse immune to being charmed. I used a potion. Also, I took out all of the nurses without lohse present at sufficient distance from the Dr so that he turned demon and I physically ran away from him to return with lohse and charm resistance which I tried as a last resort.

You're right, immunity to charm is a really neat trick in your situation. I actually forgot about this one in my previous post (shhh let's pretend I totally remember it all this time).

But anyway, good to hear your situation has improved. It's one of the more challenging and rewarding fights in the game, so hope you enjoy it, as well as the rest of the game.
