Hi,
I want to play with two characters (2x lone wolf). First will be a mage, but I can’t decide between shadowblade and ranger for second character. I’ve read rogues in EE are the worst classs. Are they? Or simple they are not so OP as in classic DOS? How about ranger? Are they any good?

Welcome.

The main problem with your "group" (i.e. duo) is that you don't have a tank who can hog incoming damage from enemies. Both rogue and ranger have similar strengths and weaknesses as they're both dex-based classes. That said, "classes" in DOS are just templates you can alter during the game with little restrictions (attributes being the most prominent). So, you could give your "mundane" rogue or ranger some ranks in magic skills or toughen them up with some physical attributes and/or Man-At-Arms skills. The higher skills will be unavaiblable because they usually demand specialisation in a particular attribute. Since rogue and ranger are dex-based classes, it does suggest itself even more to give them some skills of one another. Mages can summon a variety of creatures, some of which can substitute as tanks or at least for distraction – if only for their limited lifetime.

DOS is all about freedom and experimentation, so don't hesitate to try unusual combinations. Don't give too much weight to others' preferences. Play what's fun to you. I would say that you can hardly "ruin" your characters on Normal difficulty. Some builds may require better tactics than others, and higher difficulties require more optimised characters. What difficulty are you planning to play on?

He could go for one-shot'ing everything on turn 1.

They are probably not as powerful as rangers, but rogues/shadowblades are very fun to play. As many movement items as possible, and grab a nice axe in the off-hand - this lad/ladette can deal some sweet damage.

Think I had the most fun out of the all builds I've played with. Actually had that type of rogue along with 1-hand/shield character (both lone wolves) in my latest game, and couldn't wait to open Hall of Darkness so I could respec very unfun (to me at least) shield character into another dagger/axe weilding rogue/warrior hybrid.

I'm currently at the end of level 15, with around 15 in strength and dexterity, 8 or 9 in intelligence and 10+ in speed. Of course, with items.

Lacerate, Precise Incision, Daggers Drawn - those are amazing, and I don't think I'll even go for the master skills. DD while in backstab cone -- ayay!

Works nicely.
