Hi there,

I've run into a bit of a problem, and I can't seem to find a solution to it.

I've been working on a large mod for the main campaign for quite a while now. I've mainly been creating new classes, recipes, new NPCs etc.

But now I've decided that the time has come to use the Story Editor.
Fer starters ('Little' reference to a certain female vendor in the Driftwood market square), I just wanted to add a few simple things to my NPC dialogues. One example is that I wanted an NPC to give an item to a character. I remembered that the NPC Margo in Fort Joy would give a Restoration Scroll to you in a dialogue, so I basically tried to replicate that code to no avail.
I could use the written code that was used for the Margo NPC and get the NPC to give a Restoration Scroll, but my own code didn't work.

After spending quite a lot of time on it, I decided to use this excellent guide to just learn everything from scratch: https://docs.larian.game/Your_First_Story_Script

Unfortunately, it seems that my Story Editor is just messing with me and I can't even Build the story. This happens with or without any added new items. I've taken a screenshot of the errors I'm getting.

I've tried to look through the forums to see if anyone else was experiencing similar issues, and I saw someone mentioning that an outdated Divinity Engine could be the problem. I'm running it on Steam and it appears to be up to date, so I don't think that's the problem.

I'm crossing my fingers that someone has some advice, as I'm completely stuck and can't add anything in the story editor. smile

Hi McCrunch, did you generate definitions before building story?

Yep, did that! And just tried it again to be 100% sure, same problem.

I just checked the latest Steam version and everything appears to be working correctly. Could you confirm whether your Divinity Engine 2 Data DLC for Divinity: Original Sin 2 is up to date?

Thanks for checking into it!
From what I can tell it's the latest version. Everything is checked (It shows one DLC, The Engine which is checked) and I have automatic updates to high priority and so on. Just tried unchecking and checking it.

I'm running 3.0.171.369 - Not sure if it's the latest version or not.

3.0.171.369 is indeed the latest version of the editor, though this is most likely a data issue. Which project dependencies does your project have (Story, Arena, Game Master)? You can see this in the Project settings window.

If you create a new Adventure project that only loads data from Story, are you able to build?

It's a Story/Add-on and I only have "Origins" in Project dependencies.

Just tried with a new project and it's unfortunately the same.

Is there any way I can "safely" try to reset the Story Editor files?

You can try the "Verify integrifty of game files" option in Steam. You can find it by right clicking Divinity: Original Sin 2, opening the Properties window, and navigating to the "Local Files" tab. It should be at the very bottom. Note that this data comes from Divinity Original Sin 2 and not from the Divinity Engine 2 app in Steam.

If that does not work, I would recommend backing up your mod, removing the Divinity Engine 2 Data DLC from your DOS2 installation in steam, and then deleting the Editor, Public, Mods and Projects folders from your data folder.

To back up your mod(s), you will need to copy the following folders:
Data/Editor/Mods/{YourModName}
Data/Public/{YourModName}
Data/Mods/{YourModName}
Data/Projects/{YourModName}

Once your data folder is 100% clean, you can try re-installing the Divinity Engine 2 Data DLC in Steam, creating a new mod and building Story. If you are still unable to build Story at this point, your editor data may be corrupted by any mods you have installed (clear the "Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2\Local Mods" and "Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2\Mods" folders).

Once you are able to build in a clean project, you can move your mod files back to the data folder.

Okay, I'll give each option a try. Thanks a lot for the help! smile
