When I go into the dialogue editor, I create the nods for the conversation and assign them to their speaker and all that. (I followed a tutorial) But it always shows up as the dummy talking to itself?

Best post some screenshots of your dialog node properties so other people can have a look at what might be the problem. Also make sure the speakers list of the dialog is set up correctly.

My guess would be that you accidentally created a second dialogue box in a node, or incorrect speaker groups assigned in the conversation.

However, as Tinkerer said, it's hard to tell what the problem really is without any images to look at.

As it's been said already, make sure your speaker groups are properly assigned. In most cases, GROUP_Players should be the second speaker group:

That way, greeting/answer nodes will default to the NPC, and question nodes will default to the player:
