Greetings Fellow Adventurers!
Finally I have encountered a problem that has forced me to tread the perilous path to consult with the sages here at the hallowed forums of larian.com
Basically loading any of my savegames result in a crash to the desktop. I have no problems starting a new game. Now that I am a Level 45 Battle Mage, fighting with tooth and nail (and a bit of help from my trusty death knight) across the wastelands with the end in sight, I am loath to give up.
I have tried cycling the desktop resolutions down and switched to 16 Bit Colour. I have even tried deleting the cache files in the dynamic folder. Furthermore I have tried running the game in software and directdraw mode with the usual gfx options enabled and disabled, but to no avail.
The error.txt states simply and eloquently that it: "Can't Reset GFX"!
Barring a complete uninstall/reinstall, what else can this weary traveller do?
-A Seemingly Defeated Lord Panda

You didn't just restore your saves from a CD-R backup, did you? If so, in Windows Explorer select all the files in each save folder, right click, select Properties and clear the read-only attribute. Check the number of files in the saved game folders (in '..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames'). Missing files might cause the game to crash when trying to load. In the wastelands a save game folder should have 37 files, and after getting to the Black Ring dungeon it should have 42. Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)

Thanks for the reply Raze. No they were not back-up saves. They have been my original savegames for the past several months.
My Wastelands savegame is comprised of 37 files. I have basically done all the things that you have listed in your guide Master Raze, but alas, fortune has deserted me.
I've been running trouble free for months until this hiccup. The error file states "Can't reset GFX". Anyway thanks for your help.
Hopefully a reinstall will amend things. If that doesn't work then you'll probably hear my screams of anguish fill the night skies.

It sounded like you had already either found the troubleshooting topic or tried the same things on your own, but I listed it anyway, just in case.
If it really is a graphics problem, I would think re-installing should help, but I don't know why existing games would cause a problem while new ones would not.

The reinstall worked thankfully and I'm back in the wasteland plying my trade. Thanks for your help anyway - still have no idea what went wrong.
