I just bought the game today and i was well excited but after installing it it just crashes everytime i run it!
i've updated my drivers (i think), done a windows update and now i'm pulling my hair out and crying like a girl!

i've got a laptop, compaq nx9005, radeon igp 320m graphics card and i dont know whats wrong. please help me any way you can!

Where does it crash exactly (during main menu, loading, during gameplay?). And do you get some kind of error message? What operating system do you have? Also: What programs do you have running in the background? (press ctrl-alt-del to find out). Did you manage to run the games start-up test without any problems?

Anyway, without all that info, the best guess I can give is that your laptop doesn't have a decent 3D card. I'm not sure what the radeon igp 320m is, but I don't think it meets the required standard that is needed to play DB, but I could be wrong.

Generally, laptops don't play 3D games all that well. (Beyond Divinity uses 3D models) A decent gaming laptop can easily cost you $2000-$3000, whilst $700 is often enough to get a decent gaming PC.

I'm running xp home version, very few progs in background, like none i think. i can do the game test, load the game, the intro movies play, i create my character, start the game and then as the death knight approaches it crashes.
it seems like the speaking of the characthers is the problem!

i had trouble with the original version but it played fine. Morrowind works, Sacred works, i don't know whats wrong!

i just wanna play my game!

The minimum recommended graphics are a Geforce 2 class card, though people have run the game fine on less. Even a low end Radeon should enough, I think.

The game crashes after he enters the cell? Try dropping the resolution and disabling fog in the configuration, at least until you get past the initial conversation.
Did you shut down all non-essential programs before installing the game, reboot and do the same before installing the patch?

Ok, this is a long shot, but try disabling sound, by turning it all the way down in the options menu. Not all sound, just the voices. And if that doesn't help, turn down all sound.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to download the latest patch for the game.

Which drivers are you using for your graphics card, cause I know that ATi doesn't give drivers for mobile chipsets.

But if it crashes right before the deathknight starts talking, the problem might be something else.
You can first try putting "sound 0" in the config.lcl file which is at this point empty.
This will disable the sound.

Also, check if there are files called debug.lst and error.txt, if there are any, post the contents here please.

Or first install game and NOT patch anything, then try new game, ...

Who knows, you can always patch afterwards if it works.

Oh and believe me these guys on this forum WILL help you, don't give up !

How do you disable fog? I go into the Configuration tool and set the Display Size, FSAA level and Fog setting, then I click Apply & Close. The next time I run the Configuration tool, the Fog setting is reset (enabled), but the others retain their previously saved settings.

Note on that: you need to press Enter after typing it so that there is a blank line below.

I'm having the same problem...
Got the game yesterday... installed it and played for a few hrs (unpatched)... no problem.

Today I want to play... and I crash everytime during the initial loading screen before you get the main menu...

When I restart I have to redo the graphic-detection: OK
start the game -> crash (tried all options)

I'm downloading the 1.32 patch now, but I fear that will not solve my problem, it WORKED yesterday... (7 kb/ second ... enough time to write this post...)

System:
AMD 2600+ WinXP
512 MB RAM
GeForce4

If I find the solution for my problem I'll let you know... ,please let me know if you find a solution...

What's that? This is NOT real life? a game? Help, I wanna get out...

Lar (Head of BD project) just said that the next patch is going through final testing, and that it might already be downloadable today. So I'd wait for that, and see if that solves the problem.

The 1.32 patch worked for me... no more problems... restarted a couple of times without problems...

It probably replaced the corrupted file? or just fixed the problem?
My next step would have been to uninstall and re-install BD...

I just hope I don't run into the same problem again.
But, no time to waste... it's PLAYTIME <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />...

That's great, but the latest patch is version 1.4, and I STRONGLY recommend it, as it fixes alot of problems.
