My suggestions for improving controller UI, balancing and gameplay
As someone who was played over 500 hours in the game (300 hours with a controller) and completed 100% achievments, i think that the controls for this game are delightfull but there is room for minor improvements and some others when it comes to balancing.
Also english isnt my main language, so expect some grammar mistakes.
Controller UIMy first issue when i started to play with the controller was the lack of an option to "Delay Your Turn" and "Flee" during combat, of course late i figured out you could put those in the action bar, but to new players this shouldnt be an issue. I think the game should allow players to use "Delay your turn" by holding Y/Triangle and to "Flee" by hold X/Square rather then having to add the option by themselves, as many could potentialy miss out the option to do so.
Another thing you could change is the way you can target certain Enemies/Objects, using LB/L1 and RB/R2 to target certain enemies isnt a bad idea, during combat you should be able to access enemies/allies in the upbar by pressing LS/L3, using The left Stick or DPAD to select certain taget and then presing A/Cross or B/Circle to leave this menu (in this case, the option to unlock camera movement would be moved to LB/L1 and the "Tactical" camera would be moved to RB/R1).
Another thing that needs improvement is the option to customize the action bar by just moving Skills/Items/Action without removing them one by one..
Split-ScreenIn the options menu you could add an option to set Vertical or Horizontal Split-Screen.
Horizontal Split-Screen could look like this:
When you are in "locked split-screen" mode, it shouldnt add an annonying text that says so.
Also an option to play 4 player split screen would be nice, it could be like this:
EDIT:I should have moved the summonings to the left or right since in where it is, is where the enemies/alies bar goes.As for the minimap in 3 or 4 player split-screen, press DPAD UP (as the tactical camera is in RB/R1) and a transparent minimap appears in the center of your screen.
I highly encourage you to add a 4 player split screen mode because there is a huge demand of Split-Screen games on consoles, people are desperate for local multiplayer games and each day we have less local multiplayer than ever
Gameplay and balancing New Blood Staves and Wands for necromancers, these Wands and Staves scale on intelegence, dealing physical damage and they have a -25% elemental damage reduction.
New Earth Staves and Wands replacing the poissonous as you are unable to use poissonous Wands and Staves against the undead and if you have a undead in your team, these are overpowered.
When you use a spear, all touch range skills (Chicken claw, Decaying touch, ect.) should have the same range as spears.
New talents: -Summoning Master (Increases the total amount of summons a player can have at once from One to Three diferents summons, but your summons only have 50% damage and health).
-Enchanted spear (Makes all Aerotheurge skills scale 60% on intelegence and 50% on finese while wielding a spear)
--Enchanted crossbow (Makes all Geomancer skills scale 60% on intelegence and 50% on finese while wielding a crossbow)
Some changes to default Classes: -Battlemage: Their default weapon is the spear, they use finese instead of strengh and their main talent is "Enchanted Spear".
-Wayfarer: Their main talent is "Enchanted Crossbow".
-Inquisitor: Their main weapon is the blood staff and they dont use strengh.
-Witch: Their main weapon are dual wielded blood wands, they dont use finese, they have summoning instead of scoundrel, their main talent is "Summoning Master" and their skills are Bloated Corpse, Summon Incarnate and Mosquito Swarm.
-Enchanter: Their main weapon are dual wielded electric wands.
Staves could have a high chance of having +1-5 strenght and have all-in as a weapon spell (so that you can use strengh armor and are used as melee), if not make just Staves ranged as Staves are in a weird place as it is now.
Source skills are extremely unbalanced and needs a complete rework, source spell are either useless or insanely overpowered, not to mention the way you refuel your source is simply ridiculous. If you ask me source vampirism should be removed (why? its inpractical, as it is a low ranged spell resisted by magic armor, the only times its usefull, its by using it on a corpse) and source outside of combat should be unusable(Bless and Course shouldnt use any source at all) and you would gather a source point every two turns. Source spells ocuppy to much memory, you should have a limit of three source spells, one per point you unlock.
If you ask me the Tactician difficulty should be like in the first game where there are more enemies than on the Classic difficulty instead of the boost that the game has.
The AI is pretty damn good compared to the previous game and is for the most part great , the AI (Specially allied and neutral AI) can do some dumb things, like walking on a damaging surface when they are invisible, using their bouncing shield on a ally when they can hit the enemy just fine, hurting an ally with shackles of pain just to hit the enemy in their range, standing in front of a ladder so nobody can use it, electrifiying the ladder just to use it after that, walking on opportunist attacks just to die, and the list goes on, my point is, this is stuff you can fix within minutes by improving the algorimth.
Also after playing "the hold" for the first time it should give you an option to skip it when starting a new game.
Quicksaves should be disabled during combat and conversation, and a limit of 1 or 2 quicksaves, the game should auto save when you start a fight.
Gameplay aside, add an internal resolution scaler, there are many low end pc gamers that play many games on a 640x360 internal resolution, and using a custom resolution of 640x360 makes text unreadable.
So thats it, aside from the nameless isle (wich feels like a boring intermission) and the last boss fight, those are all my complaints for D:OS 2 (wich is my second favorite Rpg, next to fallout 2), i adore this game thats why im writing not because im mad, just because i want to see Larian studios do even better. I wish Larian studios good luck for the Defenitive Edition, wich im looking foward to play.
