Should I pack my main character with pet pal or should I put it on one of my companion?
How useful is that my main character has that feat?

Pet Pal is most useful on your character who takes Persuasion. Persuasion is often best on your main character, who you control and have in the lead when entering new areas, and presumably want talking to everyone, but that depends on the build your main character has.

It gives some additional quests, but it also could be depressing because many of the animals you talk to have depressing things to say.

OK, if I put pet pal and persuasion on my companion, instead of main, would I miss some rewards/xp/quest?

No.

However, sometimes there are conversations which are triggered automatically once you walk within a certain range. Those conversations are with the person who is in front, the one you are controlling. If that is not your persuasion character, and there is a persuasion check there, your chances of failing it are higher.

That's the only downside.
