Every time I leave the game, it opens my visual c++ debugger, showing an error for a virtual function call, and everything is locked up...I have to reboot. Then of course, I have to put up with the "this game wasn't shut down properly..." redo configuration settings nonsense each time I go to play again. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
B

Since the configuration settings are not causing the problem, just click on No when the game suggests they be re-set.

Do you have the debugger running in the background, or any associated crash protection software? If so, try shutting it down and any other non-essential programs before running Divinity.

PS the hotfix can be found here.

to both of you...when I get home from work...I will try the new hotfix. I haven't patched except when I first installed the game a few months back. I suspected visual studio might be causing some of my problems...but I don't know how to disable it...and I need visual basic for work so I don't want to uninstall. Hopefully the patch will help. I appreciate both of you taking the time to answer.

I've got Visual studio as well, game doesn't cause any problems here.

The 1.32 patch is at least 4-5 months old, so that may be the one you already have. CDV (the publisher) has another patch for quality assurance, but they have had it for awhile and do not appear to be in any great rush to test and release it.

If you have Windows 9x, you can ctrl-alt-del and hit End Task on everything but explorer and systray. In XP there are some processes that can/should not be close. If visual studio sticks an icon on the taskbar by the clock, it may have a right click option to exit.

Well, I had the latest patch, but after hearing that someone else had visual studio and was suffering no ill effects, I got the courage to do what I should have done in the first place -- reinstall. Now I am problem free and it's much more fun to play the game.

Thank you to both of you for taking the time to answer me.

Happy Gaming. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
