Hi, I'm Lora. Yes, that's my name. Lora. L.O.R.A.

Female.

OK, I'm human. But my father-in-law assures me I'm really a small green parrot from Central America. They are also Loras. They talk. This father-in-law is also responsible for my nickname of "Hechicera", which I've used as a handle here on these boards for quite a while.

So, Sir Lora, is really Dame Lora the talking Latin American green parrot, who wishes you to think he is a male squirrel. Naturally! Assuming that Lora is also an Hechicera, this is not a problem. A natural ability I am sure. wink

This whole post is true. My husband is laughing hysterically now I have shown him this pet. I hope you have a Spanish speaker there in Belgium who knows Central American parrot names. wink Otherwise you'll just think you have one crazy player, named Lora, who randomly posts under the handle Hechicera, who is laughing as hard as her husband.

What about Ser Loras Tyrell then? He wasn't a female parrot so there goes that theory wink

Lora is derived from Latin Laurel meaning "victory" of which Laura (and various permutations) is the female variant. However, in Anglo-Saxon it meant "small sage one", which sounds appropriate and might be the combination Larian was going for. In Spanish and French, Lora is also a surname (thus appropriate for men). And Lora is a name in unrelated cultures from Norway to Pakistan too. Ser Lora is correct, dame Lora.

Or it's just a name, like mine is Tommy. Tommy is a nickname for Thomas in some places more commonly than not, but just because it can/may be/mean something elsewhere, doesn't immediately default it to be universally true. I'm Tommy, not Thomas. Lora is Lora, not not-Lora.

Oh, of course it is different things in different places. That was the explanation of the joke. That is also why it is hysterical when my father-in-law holds out his finger like a perch and and asks me to come talk to him as if I was a bird. wink

I'm not sure about the Pakistani thing. My Pakistani friends seem to think there may be a tad more awkward?

And my handle in Spanish can translate to enchantress, so if any other "Lora" shares that particular inclination and wishes to appear however they like, what is to stop them? Perhaps he is really the Dwarven Queen? and a green parrot? Who knows?
