If you feel adventurous enough, give Divine Divinity a try. The beginning of it all, you could say. The game was my first serious RPG ever, and it was what got me into RPG in general.
Its combat is like a Diablo kind of game, but with a much more detailed game world - all sorts of miscellaneous items strewn about, and rich dialogs with NPCs. It has the humor, the quirky secret/hidden stuff, and quest descriptions that tend to be vague and most of the time offer little to no direction.
Personally, I loved the fact that the game doesn't hold your hand. But I understand many players would hate that there is no "quest marker", as sometimes the game could make you feel lost and frustrating. There might be a couple bugs here and there, and combat balance could use some polishing, but overall it's a super amusing and fun ride. Well, for me anyway.
