Just a small idea of a game mode where you as a player could select what alignment choice the game just threw at you was. A game always struggles to think of all possible motivations for a choice and you could end up with an alignment shift that didn't really align at all with the intentions you yourself have.

Just thinking it could be fun with an optional way to play the game where instead of the game deciding what alignment your choice was, you get to pick it yourself after you selected such a choice. Either play normally where the game decides what alignment the choice was, or play it where you can select it after each choice.

So with DnD at character creation you choose your alignment, assuming thats the case in in BG3 I wonder how the computer game will decide if you have acted outside of your alignment and what the consequences will be? In DOS2 it never mattered, at the end of each act you could choose to kill all the traders for their stuff to min/max.

If we are going to have alignments then i would like actual consequences. Some games will tend to change your alignment, some you may lose companions if you act in a way different from their alignment. If you are lawful good and you decide to steal from everyone or just kill random villages, how will the computer game respond? Its not a DM to warn you before you do something against your alignment and punish you afterwards.

Anyone know of any games that managed alignments really well? And if there are no effects why have alignments at all?

So basically start as neutral then play with a prologue scenario which sets your alignment?

Well I do not know if it is what you want, but in Pathfinder:kingmaker you have choices that are only available for certain alignments, and lots of dialog and quest options change your alignment, so you can ban yourself for certain classes or make your LG paladin fall from grace if you play against your choice of alignment. Your barony itself also reflects your alignment.

There are games that react to your alignment and can change while you play, like nwn or Tides of Numenera.

Oh sorry, I'm not English so language and all that xD

Basically, when the game gives you a choice that would affect your alignment in some way, like +Lawful Good, +Neutral Good, +Neutral, +Chaotic Evil, etc...

The action you take will always be judged by the game, but in many situations I've been judged wrongly since the game can't actually think of all possible reasons you could have for taking such an action, are you following your Deity, or law of the land, etc etc. There are many cases where the same option could mean a different alignment shift.

I think it would be fun for roleplay if you could have an optional way of handling these, basically you yourself set what kind of alignment the choice was.
