I went to the first BF and killed all the monsters I had could and picked up every single object to sell (took ages!) I then had around 7000k so I thought I would buy a skill option. Decided on convert arrows to fire arrows in the end. bought it off the chap but when I looked the skill branch hadn't appeared.
I looked back at what skills the man had to sell and the convert arrows was gone, also my money! I then noticed it says the skill to learn then level (No.). Is this a bug or have these levels got something to do with it? When I looked at the manual it dosen't say anything about a skill level being involved - what is it for?

Thanks

You did everything correctly - but I think the skills you can buy in the BF are not all correct. I refrained from buying there - because I had made this XP myself. Some work (shield IIRC) others don't. If you can: reload and buy skills either entirely in the game or save, before you buy one in the BF. Sorry, this is the only advice I can give.

AFAIK, the Larians are informed and working on it?

If the next patch addresses this - I will try again - so far, I saw no difference. I think, I noticed that in German version 1.2. Not sure about the earlier ones.

Thanks Kiya,

I've put a copy of my post on the technical forum to see if a moderator will answer it.

Still - what does the skill level part mean when it gives the skill then a level number after it?

Each skill has a maximum level, and each book or teacher can teach you the skill to some level. For example, the book Fergus drops teaches you the Identify Equipment skill to level 2, so you can put 2 skill points into it. If you find any level 3 items, you will have to wait until finding a teacher than can improve your skill before being able to put more skill points into it to identify the item.

Ahhhh, so that's why certain skills read "Level 6: x" How do you know (besides cramming 6 points into a skill) what your level cap is? And, more to the point, are there any skills worth 6+ points?

As for learning them in the Battlefields, unless the skill is particularly worthwhile (shield block is), hold off. Often, you'll find books that give them away for free, or NPCs who can tutor you for a fraction of the cost, say 900 or so. Battlefields are useful for getting xp and loot, but they don't seem to be a good place to do much more.

You will rue the day you opposed me! Begin your rueing! I'll just... sit over here... and watch.

You know the level cap/teacher due to the sales option. If you find a book and have eneough skill pts, you can try out the level cap => then the "+" is greyed out.

So far, I was happy with 5, as I didn't have a lot of skill pts.
