I have been searching this forum for the answer but still don't know:

Do I have to slog through the whole 9 yards (citadels) to be able to gain access to BF1? If not, when can I get back to citadel "one" to unlock the chest or where will I find the "large" BF key? I'm no match for the stone gargoyles and I need to level up and get better equipment (rather than bypass them.) Please advise. Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand your question. You don't need to tackle the gargoyles to get the first battlefield key. It's in the room before the gargoyles, so you have immediate access.

Once you touch the key, you'll have it for the rest of the act. This means that you can select secondary skills, and choose to travel there from anywhere else in Samuel's dungeons. That first key will only grant you access to the first battlefield dungeon; however, you'll be able to roam around the entire Act I battlefield, selling items, stealing items, and leaving stuff on the ground so it doesn't encumber your team. Just remember to pick it all up before you exit Act I in the real game, or you'll lose whatever's left behind.

Hope that helps. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks, Fable. I finished Divine Divinity and don't recall the sub goals to be so obscure and complicated as in these first 3 citadels.

Also, I liked Rangers and Bow weapons in most previous RPG's. In BeyDiv, I put 3 points into my Survivor's Bow accuracy and that sucks. Most of the creatures are faster than I am, arrow damage is crappy (compared to swords), and even with the DK in the lead, he gets hammered while I'm plinking away ineffectually in those confined areas. I know you can take back skills but I'm thinking of starting over (groan)or maybe...

You and me, both. I created an archer/mage, investing several points in bow accuracy and 5 in fire missiles. Damage on both is laughable. It's possible to "sell" allocated skill points back to the game, however, so maybe I'll go that course and just take the loss. Not enough skill points to go around, but it beats returning to the beginning at just this point.

I think we might be stuck on same part. I am in a portion of Sam's dungeon and I have recently killed a skeleton mage, who said I was a fool for falling for his illusion. I am running down and to the left from a door I cant open and when I reach the end of a passage the stone gargoyles spawn and they say" I'm warm and alive and they are jealous." If anyone knows what I am talking about, is there anyway for me to get into a battlefield so I can level up some to take these guys out? Also, is there a summoning doll near me?

Fable, I can't find a hidden room just "before you get to the gargoyles". Could I have the specific location of the door to that room? Crikey, do you have to rub your mouse over every frikken millimeter of game space in order to find things? (I use the alt key but barrels, levers, etc. don't show up.) This exhaustive search requirement is starting to dampen my enthusiasm.

Also, for "K", I got my first doll in Citadel 2 when I gave the tooth to the sick imp and the other imp unlocked the trap door in the SE corner of the room. Haven't used it yet. Was going to save it for lvl 4, if I ever make it.

There is early access to the battlefield 1 key. A key in the haystack in a spider cage in the first (cellblock) level opens a chest in the cellblock. You can see where you need to go on this map: http://beyond.divinedivinity.net/help/act1_citadel01.htm

I had a really hard time finding that chest even after I saw the map because it's behind a column of steam and a chain, but it's there <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

The whole first area is MUCH easier if you level up early in the battlefield. I found I was able to make it on Tactical by doing that, whereas before a few early beasties were wiping the floor with me.

And I have to disagree about arrows, by the way. A main character archer with a DK tank (sword/shield) is a fantastic combination. I didn't put my bow skills in accuracy, though -- concentrated on reload time and critical hit, since these two reinforce each other (more arrows=more crit hits). There are so many elemental arrows to be found too that you can easily specialize damage by enemy.

Yes, well I have that key but how do I get back to citadel 1 from cit. 2 or 3? I joined this forum after I fell thru the pit to cit. 2 and, as they say in the commercial, "I can't get back up!" - to use the key.

Also, where's the hidden room in cit. 3 with the BF1 key?

if you missed the BF key one in the starting level =>
you're probably having trouble at number 8, right? Ok, go to 11 and survive the illusion there. You will be teleported back into a small room, then you're in this maze:

http://beyond.divinedivinity.net/help/act1_citadel05.htm

proceed north and you will access a few small rooms. One has a large book on a stone block and there you will see the next BF 1 key. I'd leave the gargoyles and after you got the key I mentioned - you can return and kill them

For archers, I'd recommend boosting Reload Time before worrying about Accuracy too much (Agility will help with that). When I bought Crossbow Expertise (lvl 5) in act 2 I maxed Reload Time (which gave a nice Speed bonus), put 1 point in damage and 2 in accuracy.
