Hi, I finished the demo recently and ordered the game (should arrive soon).

I have a few general questions:

1) Can you enjoy this game with any class i.e. are the classes balanced?

2) This game is rated as “teen”, I like RPG games but I’m a little older then the common audience (I’m 29) so I would like to know how old are other fans of this game.

3) Skill specialization: can I specialize in only one weapon type or one magic power without loosing too much or is it best to learn a little bit of everything?

4) Treasure from monsters: I noticed that the higher my level, the better the treasure I get from the same monster type and level.
Is this also true in the full game?

5) thanks for taking the time to read this

Welcome aboard Shadow_Walker !

Here's what I can say about the game so far...Sorry if I can't answer all your questions.

2/ I'm 33 years old. I started playing games in 1998 & I'm not going to stop any soon. I purchased DD recntly.

3/ About magic powers. You can put up to 5 skill points. You have to wait a few levels before being able to another one. In short, you have no choice to be "diverse" in your skills. I strongly suggest to choose a few & put most of you skill points on it.

I'm playing a lady named Runhild. She's a fighter of level 27. My prefered skills so far :

Meteorite (fireballs like) 5 skill points

Unlock (or whatever the name is. Very useful to open doors or locked chests)
5 skill points

Elven Sight (which allow you to see your enemies far away) 2 skill points

Regenaration (allows you to heal yourself) 4 skill points

Identify (helps you determining what a magical item does) 5 skill points

Alchemy (you can create your own potions instead of always bying) 5 skill points

A word of advise here....do NOT spend all your skill points right away. Try to keep at least two as "emergency solution". Why ? I'll give an general example.

I played yesterday evening. In order to get access to a certain guild, I had to go throught some tests. If I didn't have kept a few skill points in bank, I wouln't have been able to purchase a specific skill & succeed in my tests.

In the early biginning, go ahead & spend them. As you reach level 15 try to keep some skill points in bank. It might be VERY useful if you are stuck. Otherwise, you'll have to go out & get a few levels. And getting levels just to have skill points is BORING.

Hope this will help

Warriors tend to be easier to play. With the open skill system there is not a great difference, though.

differences between classes (minor spoilers)

Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version) (contains much of the information in the above topic).

Other fans range from 11 to around 70, that I know of.

Swords tend to be the best melee weapon, or at least there are more potentially powerful swords in the game than other types of weapons.

I stuck with Sword Expertise, though had enough spare skill points I could have maxed another couple expertise as well.
BTW, if you are thinking of playing an archer, True Shot and the damage portion of Crossbow Expertise are broke. Archers are a little over-powered anyway, so the bit of missed damage is not very significant.

The chance of getting stats in the higher range for an item is related to character level in the full game, as well.

Thanks for the replies!
I’m looking forward to start playing the game

Is this game time dependant in any way?
i.e. do you fail a quest if you don’t complete it during a given time or get extra reward for completing it faster?

There is one timed quest that I recall (if you agree to be an arsonist, you have to do so that day). There is a quest to arrange an escort for some healers, which needs to be done before completing a couple of other major quests, otherwise they will move by themselves, and you will not get the experience. Another quest in the first town has to be done before the healers move.

Experience points for completing a quest are higher at higher character levels. This is opposite to killing monsters, where the experience decreases if you are at a much higher level than your opponent.

A couple quests can not be solved, and will fail as part of the plot no matter how fast you are. There are other opposing quests where you must choose which side to help, failing the opposite quest.
