I've got past the Nameless Isle now, and I have to say it leaves something of an obvious question. If the Well of Ascension is how godwoken ascend why hadn't Alexander gone there already? He laments that he hasn't ascended yet, and its established that there's concern among the populace that he hasn't ascended yet but its clear the way to do that is to go to the academy and the Well of Ascension. Presumably he knew this. There is an entire system put in place to prepare students for the trials, who come from all over Rivillon. And one gets the impression this has been going on for a long time. So why hadn't he done that? What was he waiting for?

Divine inspiration? smile I wondered that too. He tells you how to get in but he just stands there. Maybe it's the black ring siege but, Dorian got in so Alexander should be able to get out. Maybe he wanted the main character to go first to clear the way but, he somehow beats the hero there so that can't be it. I just don't know.

Possibly, but what about the years prior to that? How long has it been since Lucian died? He's been waiting since then. Is it just sloppy writing?

That part's easy. But it would be a real spoiler for me to say.
