Greetings! Just a quick thing I noticed and would love some dialogue about. I would personally love to see even a simple body shape variation option(thin, average, bulky/curvy). Especially with the new camera options and conversations zooming in on your character, it seems a missed opportunity to make everyone of each race the exact same shape. I understand that sliders aren't likely to be a thing, but some slight customization would be nice. Just my thoughts

I think the more customization the better. After all, they are your avatar, it would be nice to customize their (including potentially a one time customization of origin characters maybe restricted as little as possible).

Body variations would be nice >curvy oof. well, unless we go there, especialy with WOTC im thinking of recent MTG cards. different levels of lean and athletic would be nice.
if we get overweight elves then i call bullshit

It's actually easy to scale character models; but when you use the non-linear scaling you would for a significant bodyshape system, you can quickly find the textures warping in ugly ways, and the animations clipping badly.
Not impossible to do, but I don't see much evidence in the videos so far that their character model system is designed to allow more than limited bodyshape changes.

This game is going to have a great number of races, armor, and weapons, and animations, and all of those will need to be looked at to try and minimize ugly clipping issues or other graphical glitches. To avoid ugly graphical glitches and problems, each body type will need to be tested with the races, armor, weapons and animations. There are probably shortcuts which could be used, but adding different body types is going to be an added layer of complication on top of that needed for different races.

clipping is only the tip of the iceberg. Texture stretching can looks realy awfull with high fidelity graphics

i know it is not what OP was asking for but maybe slightly scaleable characters from x and y dimension from 90%-110% (dunno to which degree the quality starts to suffer). x90 y 110 for tall and thin while x110 y90 for fatter lads.. (sure poportions are actually you were asking for like hips, beer belly and so on but at least could do some variety)

I am not sure customisation of bodies should be a priority in a game your avatar is quite small unless you are in the inventory screen or in a cutscene. And as cutscenes are high definition, I agree clipping could be a real big issue.
Personally, as long as there are lots of different armor pieces and clothes as well as an extensive colour palette to choose from, I am fine. I would rather have them add more hoods and hats.

I dunno. I think appearance is pretty important in a game like this. A large part of the game will be seeing your character interacting with others in conversation, not to mention you can now zoom the camera in quite close. I will only really be zooming out to get a better view of larger fights or investigating new areas. I don't personally mind a small amount of clipping as I find just about every game cuts corners when it comes to minor instances of it. Just my thoughts.

Customization is a big factor in RPGs, always has been. And since BG3 wont feature portrait importing, we better get some options

I support a boob slider. Or at least a busty and slim body type.

I also really want to customize body types and proportions and height, and I know it would be within a narrow window so all the animations still looked right.

I agree with OP. That's the primary reason why I close to always play female characters. Because I HATE it when my character must look like a bulky brute. I have always hated how for example Blizzard always makes the male characters bulky. Even the male Blood Elf had unreasonably large shoulders. That's one of the many things that I love Dragon's Dogma for, considering in that game I can play a male character with the bodytype and body posture that I need my character to have in order to properly enjoy playing and looking at my character.
