Hello there,

I'm full of anticipation for BG3 and I just can't wait to finally dive deep into the early access.

Because I can't wait I reinstalled Divinity OS2 to try out the definite Edition and then I remembered why I quitted playing this game after a while.
I know this may sound kind of weird but I played Neverwinter Nights for such a long time and when I played Divinity I just get superduper mad because I have no free camera control. I can control 360° but it is not possible to change it in the vertical direction.
Maybe it is just a compulsion neurosis but it feels so unbelievable bad for me, that I can not change this angle. I remember I played on a market and. I just wanted to take a nice look around and get a better feeling of it and. I was just getting angry because I felt so caged in this.. so I quit the game and never touched it again.

I played every BG Game and I'm so absolutely happy that you will release it.

So Larian I just beg you... please.. please please ! .. don't do this to BG3.

Please don't give me the same feeling I had in Divinity on this market in BG3, the Game I waited for such a long time.+

I'm very sure that lot's of your staff played Neverwinter Nights or something equivalent and I think you all can remember these great feeling
of freedom when you start moving your character for the first time and you can just look at everything. And I think it can be the same in BG3, just a lot better with all the things I saw until now.

I wish you all the best!

PS: Sry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker.

I've seen multiple angles and a lot of really far away shots and a lot of really close shots, and you can both pan and rotate the camera, so I guess I'm a bit confused.
You can also put the camera overhead with default "O" on a keyboard, but that one can get kinda finicky sometimes.

What do you mean specifically by free camera? I logged almost 400 hours in D:OS2 and it seemed pretty free to me and was only a pain sometimes because the overhead was too close for some large AoE ability targeting.

DOS2 didn’t have a tradition Y axis but it did let you zoom, so I never felt like I was missing out on anything.

I’m not sure what your issue was with DOS2, but BG3 has a much more flexible camera system, allowing for both close up 3rd person control and birds-eye overhead 3rd person views.

For D:OS 2 there are mods that can let you change the pitch angle.

D:OS 2: Improved Camera - for the Definitive Edition, the script may need to be edited, as described in one of the most recent, top comments; when I checked the executable version some time ago, it worked without issues.

Better Camera 2 + Hide UI for DOS 2 Definitve Edition - The original author has not updated the mod for recent game updates, but Canoob in the comment section has posted an update for the current v3.6.69.4648 (Dropbox link).

Vanilla game the worst the game camera gave me was just being difficult to inspect buildings I wasn't inside without some difficult zooms.
Avoiding to many mods while finishing up DoS2. Look forward to the variety though.

This is just amazing. After my post I found this yesterday, take me some time to make it work (as you say, only the last link is working).
Exactly that is was I missed so much while playing, time to make a new Necro and enjoy the whole story smile
I just hope they implement this "little" thing in BG3 so u can do it right from the beginning without 3rd party support.

The camera is so uncomfortable that it makes me feel nauseous. During the game, I want to tilt it down a bit and zoom out.

I also agree that adding in the ability to tilt is definitely needed. Having a vertical movement would also help for some situations since it looks like the cameras vertical position is locked to the currently controlled character.
I think the current behavior is fine for the majority of the time, but there's some points where you just can't get the right angle or something is too far up/down to see.

This has been demanded for 3 years. Either it disrupts Larian’s vision for the game or it is technically unfeasible. If it is no, then it must be can’t or won’t.

+1 Absolutely the most important change this game needs.

It would be great if we could get an option to disable the automatic camera movement completly while in combat.

In combat -even if I disable all camera options in the menu the camera still makes this "automatic jump" if a player-character is doing any ranged attack to a target which is far away.

I find this very annoying since I often move the camera into a nice angle to see the shot but then the camera jumps to a strange angle that you even can't see the impact anymore.

Maybe this could be amended in the future.

Okay, we have a few new threads starting about camera movement, so I'm just going to lock this resurrected old one to try to cut down on duplicate discussions.

See eg https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=877814 for a more recent conversation.
