Many people don't have the best internet speed and 150 gigs is pretty big for a game. I'm guessing 150 gigs is the whole game and not just act 1 right? But nonetheless how about giving us the option to pre-load it?

Preload would be great, but that would require the ability to preorder, which they said they would not do. Perhaps they'll change their mind?

Steam does not allow preordering of early access games. it's not a Larian thing, it's a Valve thing.
And since you can't preload until you buy them game, which we can't do until it launches..we, sadly, cannot preload.

That is massive, especially considering this is roughly 1/3 of the game and we still don't have many options like all classes and origin characters.

I can't comment on whether or not it's an estimate for EA or full release, but what I can tell you is that the way most games work, is that assets (primarily textures and audio and other small but numerous files) takes up most of the space. A new class, including its skills, stats and coding for origin characters would be a matter of a few megabytes total of storage space, if previous Larian games is anything to go by. The entirety of Reaper's Coast as a map in DOS2 was ~200MB. So the game content is actually very, very small in storage space. So growth of total storage space is not linear in parallel with growth of game content smile

I think it's the same problem with many games. Steam requires double the size for installation. The final size will probably be 70gb but you will need 150 on your disk for the game to actually install.

I don't know why they keep doing that but it's really a pain sometimes. Like you have to uninstall other games then install them again afterwards.

Steam doesn’t usually double the storage requirements for other games in requirements listings.

Destiny 2 has 105gb requirement. Install it and let me know how much you have in the end. It's not exactly double but it's still ridiculous.

It's not all the time but it happens. And the fact a game which was announced at 70 suddenly becomes 150 is quite suspicious.

Another example which boggles me all the time: total war warhammer 2. Each time you need to update the game, it asks for 86gb free on your disk even though the game is only 57 total.

I was thinking more in the lines that new classes and origin characters would lead to new quests and dialogue options which leads to new cinematics.

150 GB is an absolutely massive increase compared to the old size which I believe was listed at 70 GB.
Is the 150 GB just for the uncompressed EA version or is the full release's size also expected to be in this vicinity?
I would really appreciate an official word on this matter so I know whether or not I have to invest in a new SSD for one game.

The data is packed in the Early Access version (AFAIK the install size isn't going to be 150GB, but I'm not sure if or how much the current size is subject to change; if you were good at 70GB, you'll probably be ok, for now).

The main problem with steam is whether it's actually 150gb or not, if what's entered in the specs is 150, it will only install if you have this amount of space on your disk, hence many of us will have to uninstall games in order to install yours.

Steam needs twice the installed size of games, since it downloads the data first, and then copies it to the install folder.
It would be strange to use the listed requirement (including padding to allow for updates and game saves, etc), if the client knows the actual size of the install.

Thanks for confirming this. That's what I said earlier but it seems some people were disagreeing on the matter.

150 GB seems to be a "placeholder size" on steam, so the size could be anything on release. I read on twitter where someone wrote that BG3 will be 70 GB - I'll try and look for it!

Edit: It's confirmed to be around 80 GB here: https://twitter.com/Cromwelp/status/1311985559351504897

Great find! Thank you.

I don't want to fall to bits 'cos of excess existential thought.
