Whilst they've twittered the sales so far have been "insane" (Early Access and all), I'm wondering whether they feel the extra investment was worth it. DOS was made by a reasonably small team, DOS2 a moderately sized team -- but BG3 probably has the biggest team ever for a "classic" CRPG working on it.
Naturally, it's a bit too early to tell. Hard to say what's going to happen once the full release hits. It may be that the majority of the game's core audience have already picked it up.
