In the tabletop, spears are simple, versatile piercing weapons; the piercing equivalent of a quarterstaff. You hold it in one hand, you do 1d6 damage, with two, 1d8. Using a spear with a shield is a classic historical and fantasy aesthetic; yet I just looted a spear in game and I must use it in two hands and I can't use it with a shield. Why is this the case?

I'd settle for just Versatile being added, but I'd love it if they also slapped on Throwing.

It seems like nearly every video game I play, spears are downgraded to one dimensional weapons. The only game that I've seen get them even close to right is Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Even then, you had to actually carry three weapons and swap between them: a Shortspear to mimic one-handed and use it with a shield or second weapon; Spear to mimic a more powerful two-handed grip; Javelin to mimic the throwing a spear.

PLEASE, can we get a spear in BG3 that has the Versatile and Throwing properties?
