Hello!
There seems to be an issue with bonuses applying to a my role. In two instances (I save scummed). The traps in the Dank Crypt (grease traps). I have a ranger with +3 dex modifier, so the slight of hand should have been +3 (no proficiency). The first time I tried, I needed a 5, I rolled a 3. If we take into consideration that I rolled a 1, the lowest I could have done is a 4. I also had Guidance on from Shadowheart. If it rolled 1 on the d4, it should have been 5. I reloaded the save to attempt again to see.
This time I rolled a Nat 1, and the DC was 3. I'm not sure the design intent here, and I've looked through the DM's guide page 237+ on ability checks and critical success/failure. A one doesn't necessarily mean a fail, this might be larian's intent, and if so, the above still is incorrect. If its not, a 1 with my +3 would have been an auto success, I again, also had guidance for a minimum of 5.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
Edit: I was discussing this bug on some community discord and someone stated that the DC values are not "true" DC values, but adjusted for whatever bonuses one might have at the time the activity started. If this is true, then the above is not a bug, however, I'd like to submit feedback to change this. No player will really grasp this. Instead, please show the TRUE DC, roll the dice, and then provide an animation that adds your modifiers, or a summary of the roll+ modifiers below. It would be much clearer, and also stays more true to 5E ruleset. The DM sets the values and we know our roll and bonuses.
Thanks again for the read!
