So I haven't really played DnD since 3.5e (yeah I know, late to the party over here...)

But as far as I remember, my melee damage should be better than the game's actual numbers are showing in combat?

For instance, I have 16 strength (so a +3 mod, right?) and I'm wielding a longsword two-handed, which apparently means it uses 1d10 for damage rolls.
The game's UI claims this is 1d10+3 damage, and that sounds right to me (well, ignoring two-handed bonus but I dunno if that's a thing in 5th edition)

However, many times I've dealt 1 damage with my strikes. Even after dipping my sword into something like fire, it still can deal 1. Shouldn't my minimum be 4, at the very least?

TL;DR is there an error in the damage calculation or am I being ignorant to 5th edition rules, and if so can someone explain to me how it works now? Thank you!

Are you considering a possible DR from the opposition? There are enemies with damage reduction right in the first area of the game.

It shows the calculations in the log if you hover the cursor over the damage dealt.

I was thinking there was DR on the enemies, but I didn't know I could check the logs for dice rolls!

Thanks!

This sounds like a bug, maybe report in the bug forum?

Are you sure the enemies you are fighting don't have resistance to slashing?

If you are fighting the hell´s imps in the prologue, for example, they´re resistant to all physical damage. wink

Y'all were correct, I thought I had mentioned this earlier, oops. After being told I could check the rolls in the game through the dialogue window, I could confirm it's just resistance/DR. Thank you <3

How do you check your dice rolls in the dialogue window? When I open it I see actions but not my dice rolls, and I don't see where to turn that on in the options.

I would think even if it were from resistance then my minimum damage should be two, since resistance halves damage right? Or did they add in resistance as well as DR? Am I feel like I may be missing something.

Move your mouse to the text in the combat log box. A pop up will show you the additional info.
