The reason there are so many problems is because you're all installing and running old saves.
If you want things to fix right you're going to have to
accept the fact that you need to start over again.
I started fresh and have ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS
other than my gripes about weightless shoes
and the non-scaling weight of arrows,
but everything else has been flawless for me.

there we go .... ...light at the end of the tunnel!

This guy is absolutely insane. He picks up on the 1 person who claims he's not having any problems since starting over and posts it in 15 threads. Believe me, this guy is hardly spewing a light at the end of the tunnel. Larian's responses that the bugs are being worked on however is the light that you are looking for. Not saying it will be in the next patch...maybe not even the one after that, but they will come through eventually.

I wonder just how many topics Jurak has posted "Start a new game" in. As I said, there is no way in hell i'm starting over when i'm at the last enemy in the game. (Who may I add is kicking my behind all over the place).

I'm wondering hard whether to even start a new game when i'm finished with this one. I was going to try stealthy or magic this time around but I might just go back to Divine Divinity. Apart from my love of that game, I miss the Orcs and Dwarves .

he may be obnoxious, but he makes a valid point. starting a new game AFTER the patch is likely to not have any of the issues games in progress seem to be having.

Larian has noted that patches may or may not be able to correct issues within currently progressing games, depending where you are in the game.

I know how this is. I had this problem with Prince of Qin. Good game, but patches fixing something with multiplayer and then later with the single player, would break something new in the single player game. so i started over 3 times. i;m currently taking a break from my 3rd session, while i'm playing this one.

Damn from 1.4 to 1.41, now a quest of bettlefield act 1 has $ERROR$ in place of the item i should find.

But worse, whatever the way i use to finish ACT1 ( i wont spoil more ), i get the loading screen and then i crash to desktop

And that whatever resolution i use.

since i checked the patch downloads page, after downloading 1.41, i noticed that you have pulled the patches and are informing us that you are updating. does this mean that you are feverishly working on a new one right now to fix the issue with the summoning doll, battle fields and pyramids?
i wonder if i should wait to install the patch or continue with my experiment as i've already backed up my save folder, and am prepared to uninstall and reinstall to patch 1.32 if necessary.

hmm....

EDIT

well i tried it just for grins. the summoning doll blew up my game.

or rather 1.41 did. so, time to uninstall everything....

andtakeitbacktothestore!

.:heh:. <=== poking fun at everyone whose getting overly bent about this.

actually, i'm going to reinstall to 1.32, and, thanks to everyone who encountered this issue posting, copy my savegames from my backup folder into the savegame folder again. foresight is a wonderful thing.

believe me i sympathise and i'm sorry that you guys are going to have to perhaps restart if a patch to fix the issue isn't possible (apparently the summoning doll problem might be there regardless of a new or in progress game).

But given that i've grinned and born it myself through a different game, specifically, Prince of Qin, which I happen to like alot, and which is currently working, as i'm playing it with the latest patch, I can't really say i feel completely sorry for anyone. Been there done that. Sometimes these things just happen.

I appreciate all you fellow beta testers who got to the patch before I did.

Thanks. And thanks to Larian for pulling it before any more games got broken.

Looking forward to a new improved patch very soon.

Actually, I know it may not refer directly to what we think it does;

but "This patch with not affect your saved game" posted all over the support page kind of says it won't cause all these problems, to those of less technical background. If I'd known it would, i'd of stayed with 1.00 to be perfectly honest, but now I like the respawning gold to feed my potion addiction .

We can't all be bug-testers and computer experts, unfortunately.

As for starting over: The point is, not many people are prepared to lose a few days to a weeks worth of work (Beyond Divinity is pretty darn hard in places) just to delete it anytime a new patch fixes stuff that is wrong. I never had problems in Baldurs Gate, NWN, Morrowind etc after patching. The only thing I ever had problems with (in Morrowind particularly) was fan made modules. I know it's like comparing apples and oranges but hell, as has already been said: We paid for the game, we shouldn't be expected to bug test as well. That's a beta stage, not retail.

And no, i'm not complaining/whining/pissing/bitching. I like BD, I'm just wondering if anyone takes into consideration what less-knowledgable computer users might think. I've already had one friend refuse to buy BD after playing my copy and who bought FarCry instead. It's a damn shame.

i do understand where you are coming from, and you are right of course. i chalk it up to the fact that larian is a fledgling company.

i noticed that they yanked the patches before anyone else installed them. i am thinking that i might wait. but since i backed up my save folder it might be interesting to see what happens.

Well i've reinstalled three times today already so, nevermind lol. Experimenting with that battlefield bug has probably caused my hard-drive to be randomly generated and not just the battlefields I hate to think how long Defrag is going to take tonight.

WELL...

OOPS.

So, now that we know that 1.41 is a bad patch due to the following major game breaking problems:

1) clicking the summoning doll crashes the game
2) teleporters are missing / broken
3) act 4 battlefields cannot be left

when can we expect these to be corrected?

also, if one is in act 2, imp village, and hasn't done solved any of the imp quests, nor any of the battlefield quests, nor has one retrieved the pyramids, would it be safe to say the new patch will allow one to continue?

or would it be advisable to continue the game from save at the beginning of act 2 or at the end of act 1?

let me know.

thanks

keep up the good work. sorry about the bad stroke of luck on this latest patch.

I think in the other thread Lar states that if you have a save game of version 1.41, you'll need to install the patch or get the bugs later. Don't quote me on that though, i'm a bit confused myself.

If worse comes to worse, just reinstall the game and only download/run patch 1.42. I think I will anyway, to avoid any conflicts.

thanks. boy, they sure goofed. i suppose if i was to patch from 1.4 to 1.41, it might actually work? rather 1.4 to 1.42.

*raised eyebrow* so which is it. i rather enjoy the summoning doll help.

and would like to continue using it.

I don't think anybody has a clear idea what they should do. I for one need step by step instructions, confusion got the better of me on this one. I'd rather reinstall game and then apply the new 1.42 patch coming out but o_O I dunno if I need to. Currently have 1.41 installed, but my saves have been altered by 1.40 in the past.

ah but since i never installed 1.4, that presents a whole new problem. because apparently its a new bag of worms if you don't. typically, one shouldn't have to install each patch successively except when otherwise told to do so.

did you have the same problem i did with the summoning doll after installing your patches? when you open inventory and click the summoning doll to summon the skeleton, does it appear and play continues, or does the game crash to desktop?

I can summon them fine, all three (including last one which I wont name in case you aint got it yet). Hmmm this is very confusing. I think I may just do what I said and reinstall from scratch
